Muffled pop now runs very rough

The other morning I was starting my B4000 and there was a muffled pop (like when you used to pop those brown paper lunch bags) and she sputtered and stalled. I can get her to turn over and ever drive, but she runs very rough and as soon as I drop her into neutral she stalls (if I don't keep my foot on the gas).
Any pointers as to where to start?
Thanks

Check to see if when it popped it blew off a vacuum hose somewhere. Also check all of your electrical connections. Something like the idle air control may have come loose. That will kill the engine and make it run rough.

if the motor is dying at idle, I would think vaccum leak. But you say there was a "pop"?

I'd wonder if a hose burst somewhere. If I were you I'd get a flashlight, open the hood and start checking everything within sight, see if there is any broken hoses, etc.

Its a starting place, at the very least.

sputtered back fire through the intake covered the MAF with crap, try taking it out and cleaning it off

backfiring through the intake can kill a maf (they really dont like that).

but it shouldnt be backfiring without a cause.
