Was the 3.0 the most popular (meaning more trucks were built with and not necessarily ordered with that engine than any other engine)?

See, that's what I think too, that fleets would want the 3.0 since it has less required maintenance, (no timing belt, one spark plug per cylinder) Remember the early Taurses? 86-91 the base engine was the 2.5 HSC, but most got the 3.0. Same with the Chevy Lumina, the 3.1 had a big power advantage over the 2.5 Iron Duke. For all of the years of the Ranger, I think the 3.0 is the most built. It was the middle option for most years. Also, for most years, it was available in 4x4 and 4x2, and was for a whilew the lowest option for a 4x4. It has to be the most built Ranger engine.

and 4 different Colognes, lol. It's a shame the Vulcan didn't get the power increases over the years that the GM 60deg did, at it's final years the 3100 was up to 175hp.I would wager most fleets got the 4 banger.
they made four gas four cylinders (2.0, 2.3L, 2.5L, 2.3 Duratec) over the years and only one 3.0 that they put in trucks for nearly 20 years straight.
In 4x4 trucks i'm gonna say it is hands down the 4.0
