More torque

That is correct Ryan,I want more TORQUE not horsepower,I gives a damn about the horsepower and agree with you about the pushrod deal, don't see needing custom pushrods but who knows.I sent an email to colt cams and they said they don't have any dyno numbers but have alot of happy customers with 2 nines.Great thing is I still have the complete top end including the beefier heads from my 87,yes I lucked out with the heads.I want to keep the stock 3.73's due to workin' an hour and a half from home.I asked the question due to someone on here with a b2 who installed a colt cam and loved it and just wanted to know if anyone else has expierence with it.

There might be a couple of other things that you could do to get more torque too. Do you have a '86/'87 throttle body? Ditching the fan & clutch for an electric fan might help a little bit too. I have seen that some people have done it around here, but never really hear about the results. I know that I put electric fans in a Jeep Wrangler which I had years ago and it made a difference with a 4.0, so I would imagine that it would have to give the little 2.9 a break. Not to mention the water pumps might actually last more than 50K miles. Another thing might be gasket matching the upper a lower intakes. I've had mine apart several times recently. I don't know why I didn't do anything with them then. I know that these are all little things, but I'm sure that they add up; especially with a cam. Be sure to follow the thread here about solid lifters to see how that works out. I know that it sounds crazy putting solid lifters in a somewhat modern motor but it does have adjustable valve lash and most importantly, problematic lifters which do not last the life of the motor.

I've done a few things already to it.Cleaned up and installed the throttle body from my '87,swapped out the 4l radiator I bought for the '87 and beefed up the ignition:accel cap'n'rotor, jba wires, bosch plat 4 and msd coil,so spark isn't an issue.I haven't had any probs with the pump but a fan couldn't hurt.I've got the complete top end off the '87 w/beefier heads so that makes it easier with the port matchin',i can still drive the truck.I will check out the solid lifter thread, thanks for the info and one more thing, are the jet chips woth the money?what's with the (the's) bein' so close to other words?

The problem with chips is that most of the time you have to run high octane. If you're gonna do that, you might want to try advancing the timing first to see if you like it. I had my timing advanced on my '88 which I had years ago (mid 90's) and remember having to use 93 most of the time but hey, gas was cheap back then. It did make it have much better response off the line though from what I remember so I ran it with it advanced all the time. Other than timing, really the only things that chips mess with is A/F ratio and sometimes shift points (if you have an auto). One thing I would like to mention in response to your comment about gear ratios and worrying about gas mileage; most people's misconception is that the higher gear ratios always have better fuel economy. All engines have a "sweet spot" where they make the most power and run the most efficiently. Depending on how fast you actually roll down the highway and the tire size you run, shorter gears might actually give you better fuel economy. It's hard to get accurate feedback from guys who have done gear changeovers because most of the time when they do it they slap on bigger wheels and tires.
Edit: I noticed your location and I think that it's fairly high altitude if I'm not mistaken. Your best bet is to get more air into that motor to see improvements. A cam, higher compression pistons, portmatching, etc, are all important. The port matching which I mentioned earlier is between the upper and lower intake (I think that the intake holes on the lower part of the intake are smaller than the upper, plus it's aluminum so it should be fairly easy to do), not the heads like you're suggesting but I'm sure that porting out the heads couldn't hurt either, but that's a much more involved project. Also, don't dismiss what I said about electric fans. You'll see loads of people on the internet saying that power and fuel savings are hogwash and they throw loads of theory out there with no practical user experiences. When I put one on my Jeep, my MPG went from 18 up to 20 and this was something that I checked over dozens of times. The power gained was really only noticeable in the higher RPMs, but then again that inline six had loads of low end torque. I'm going to go junkyard hunting with a tape measure pretty soon for an electric fan with a decent shroud (most aftermarket fans don't include any kind of shroud making them much less efficient).

Right on,I might just stay away from the programmer. As for the tires I have 235's.With having the spare top end it gives me the chance to do the portin'n'polishin' with out havin' my truck down for awhile, also good if i screw it up.I will see about gettin' an electric fan, every lil bit helps. Thanks for the info,i want to fix it up a bit along with my lancer, the lil blue rocket.A friend of mine has a 3 eight from a 2000 mustang along with the wiring harness and tranny, would it bolt up to the 146 or would i need another tranny?
