hey guys,
i have a 1987 ranger 2.9 and im looking to make it a little more reliable. it runs crappy now...but i have some tests and things i will replace. My question is does anybody sell a complete wiring harness? i couldnt find any on ebay or summit...am i out of luck? also how reliable is the 2.9? my grandpa keep this thing running fairly good over the years so that does say something haha, thanks for any help :icon_welder:

Aside from the head issues, the 2.9's are fairly reliable. I've owned two and had one at around 220k when I sold it, the other more like 160k. Fix the existing problems and you'll like it just fine.

Sounds like you don't really want to get a used wiring harness from a junk yard. which can be like rolling the dice

Painless wiring does have/makes new wiring harnesses http://www.painlessperformance.com/

also you might want to try LMC too....http://www.lmctruck.com/

Mine was kicking (not very high albeit) at 275k.... I ran the living hell out of it all through highschool, and used it to haul grain and farm equipment often.

I once ran it off the road and the driveshaft kind of fell out ot the trans.... but once it was back in it was a champ.... I think filling it with corn so many times though, finally ate the trans (prolly 3rd auto it had had when i bouth it for 400 bucks) with a battery and gas I believe that truck would still fire, but it only has first gear.
But i remember my fuel economy was crappy, but that 2.9 just would not stop!!!

yeah my grandpa had at least 200k on it from constrution jobs... we joke that all the grease is the only thing holding it together... i guess ill fix the idle then save up for a 4.0 or 5.0 swap....
