I have a 1986 ranger with 2.9l. I recently put a 87 2.9l in the truck. the truck idols fine but when i try to accelerate it misfires and acts like it runs out of fuel. i replaced the distributor cap and rotar. replaced the tfi module. any help would be appreciated.

Coughs when depressing accelerator

I had the same issue. have you been running regular/unleaded. I noticed a performance issue on this and switched to at least 89% octane and remedied the problem. but I also doublechecked my timing to make sure it was set at 10 degrees before top dead center with the pip connector unplugged than plugged it back in. this should take care of it.
