so my 98 ranger is misfiring and heastiaing really bad. I did a tune up and replaced the mass airflow sensor and it still did not help. i am moving onto the o2 sensors and fuel filter now. any ideas?

If the only code is specific to cylinder 5, it's probably not something like the MAF or O2. Those would throw a general code for the whole system, or make more than one cylinder throw a code.

I'd start by checking the fuel injector on cylinder 5. Could also be something like a bad valve seat or broken valve spring but those aren't as common.

I'd also check the coil and wire going to cylinder 5. I imagine bad spark could cause misfire conditions.
