Mike's '93 4x4

Good to see you got it all in there and stuff! :icon_thumby:

So I got my "Brand Spankin' Used" plate off multi. I took the left over domed emblem from my Cloud-Rider grille insert mod and put it over the Chrysler group logos, it fit over them pretty nicely:D

I got the A4LD serviced yesterday and there was a significant amount of brass sediment in the bottom of the pan. Guessing it is the remains of some bushing. Got it filled up with a 24 oz. bottle of Lucas trans-fix and it seemed to help the harsh reverse engagement so we'll see what happens. A shift kit is definitely in the cards.

Agreed, only put a shift kit into a truck with a perfectly working/brand new trans... otherwise it just magnifies the problem. And M5OD is definitely worth it, I've been through the auto phase in my Ranger... after replacing two, it gets old!

by shift kit you mean m5od right?

Nope, this truck is staying an automatic. After spending some time talking to Ron he convinced me an auto will work just fine in my application, when built right.

Well I have the other A4LD in my bed that as far as I'm aware is good, just a little weathered. My plan, after talking to the transmission guru, is to rebuild the A4LD using the better of the two cases, the better of any hard parts, replace all the soft parts and update whatever I can to the strongest versions. Then I'll get a shift kit put in and probably even do a new torque converter if needed. I was going to five speed it but Ron convinced me otherwise, he started talking about how a built automatic is great for offroading. And he should know dealing with transmissions for the last 30+ years. This may be the trans I will end up using but I'm not just going to put a shift kit in it and go, it will be gone through first, using whatever I can from the two transmissions to build one. And look at Sasquatch_Ryda's truck, he has an A4LD with a shift kit and it's working great for him. And his is an early build too! Not the later build like mine with the stronger O/D sprag clutch.

hey, thats a good idea to bash 2 a4lds together, im sure it will last a long time! im just a fan of 5 speeds personally, but i gotta say i do kind of like the auto since i started using the ranger a bit more lol

when I was younger I wouldn't have anything auto....had to be manual....

now I prefer auto in my trucks and cars for trips and such.....but would have to have a manual in a "sporty car".....

That's exactly the way I look at it John.

my brother and father tell me the same thing, they always wanted manual. after 25 years of driving big rig my dad now hates manual lol

Cool! There'sa company that builds A4LD's into basically a race transmission. I'll see if I can find them... I was going to build up a 3rd one with their parts but then went manual.

what really??? i need to research this... i kinda like my auto, i'm lazy

It should be good when it's done, for now the service with the Lucas fix has helped a lot.

I'm going back to the shop this Saturday to finish up my stereo install. I figure since I have the door panels off I might just install my 06+ mirrors at the same time.

Mirrors and pigtails lined up for tomorrow. Speakers are ready to go in and my door panels are just loosely attached. Should be a productive Saturday.

I wanna see pics of the finished product :icon_thumby::icon_thumby:
