Alright. I know the 4.2 has been discussed soooo many times on this page but this is the only engine that's free to me to work with. I have a wrecked '04 Mercury Monterey that has the 4.2 Canadian Essex V6 that was freshly rebuilt about 8k ago. Thing is I haven't seen a thread that's specific to the Freestar/Monterey Vans. I've heard that because it's a transverse platform that the intake, bell housing pattern for a M50D-R1 (B2300) won't fit on an R2 engine (Monterey), and motor mounts are non-compatible with a Ranger frame, but there are arguments that it'll bolt in with reconfigured wiring, motor mounts, and minor clearancing. I have the complete donor van, I have the truck, and I'm NOT buying any other engines for it. I just need to know which side of the coin is true and which one is BS.

What I know I'll need:
Engine
Headers (Or RWD Manifolds)
Different Engine Mounts
PCM (Have 5 to spare programmed for that one van)
PCM Harness (Have 2 to spare)
Flywheel
Clutch Kit

The Rest is suggestions.

You're rangers m5od absolutely will not bolt up to the 4.2. You would need to source an F150 4.2 5 speed truck for a transmission and most likely the intake and several other accessories and mounts in order to use your 4.2 in a NS mounting configuration. So basically you need a third vehicle to make the swap happen...

Not a logical swap even having the engine sitting there.

The Monterey 4.2l was a FWD... that’s a different bolt pattern from the RWD block. The F150 trans won’t bolt up. It should have the same bolt pattern as the 3.0l.

Ok so need at least 4 vehicles to make that swap work... :ROFLMAO:

Ranger 2.3 - frame
Monterey 4.2 - engine
Ranger 3.0 - transmission
F150 4.2 - upper intake and accessories

curt put a rwd 4,2 in the ranger.

its not an impossible or overly difficult swap....its just worthless compared to a bolt in 4.0
