Ok. We have been chasing this problem for a few months now on my parents van. Back in probably February or March it started stumbling and running rough. Well my mechanic found the problem, there was a hose on the pcv system that part of it basically melted. So we fixed that no problem. We got the codes reset and ever since off and on it has been throwing a P0301 code which is a cylinder 1 misfire. This past weekend we done the plugs and wires. Replaced the plugs with motorcrafts. The wires were Duralast from autozone. I buy duralast routinely and never have had issues. Plugs i always go with OE when i can. I also had the coil checked and it was good. The check engine light didn't come on till Tuesday morning when dad drove it to work about 8 miles from here. What we have going on right now is it is stumbling and chugging. Mom started it and it kicked over then stalled out. When i had autozone pull the codes the one guy who i deal with a lot done it and he pulled stuff up like the fuel trim and whatnot. I forget what all it had but i do know the fuel system pressure was right around 40.

So what do yall think could be causing this? I'm thinking if plugs, wires, and coil are all good. Then it would possibly be either a fuel injector or i'm not real sure. We are planning on replacing the fuel filter come Friday.

It's an 2004 Mercury Monterey. 4.2L engine in it. It has right around 106,000 miles on it.

If it's throwing codes you need to know what they are, changing parts at random is just money down the toilet.

I said it's throwing a P0301 code which is a cylinder 1 misfire. That's the only code it is throwing as of last night. It had thrown a few other codes before we fixed that hose issue but as soon as we fixed it and cleared the codes they didn't come back. Only one that has been showing up the last couple times the light has come on is that cylinder 1 misfire code. As for the plugs and wires, they needed done. I don't have the old ones but they had done their job and were ready to be replaced.
