Mercron, or Type F?

k. Just making sure, because the guy that found my transmission leak told me to use "Mercron type F" and there's no such thing.

They say, If you fill your trans with type "f" it will actually shift better. The problem is that type f is almost impossible to find.
If you use mercon IV it will not hurt the trans but, may actually help it. It is expensive though.

We still sell Type F on the shelf at the dealership I work at.

The only way you will find type "f" here is if it is at a mom & pop store, way in the back, with a 1/2" thick layer of dust.

Type F is not impossible to find at all. You can easily get it at Napa. The store I work at always has a case in stock. It comes in black bottles, part number 75-205 I believe. Valvoline also makes Type F: http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products/product_detail.asp?product=65 So ask your parts store to order part # 341 and that's what you'll get. Also, I realize this may just be a typo, but there's no such thing as Mercon IV. It's Mercon V.

I would not use type F in your trans, especially since you already have Mercon in it, and the two are supposed to be non-mixable.

What's the difference between regular mercron and mercron V? Will it hurt my trans?

It's the only Mercron that my local store stocks.. oh, and Mutant, I have tons of type F on the shelves at my autoparts store, every different brand and price you could imagine.

Here comes the stupid question, where the hell do I put it? I can't find the filler cap or anything >.< does it just go down the dipstick area?

Yes, You can buy a funnel made just for it. You pour it right down the dip stick tube. That is really weird about the type "f" being available there and not here. I haven't tried asking the stores to order any for me, I haven't needed any. I always look though, out of curiosity.
