Maxi-fuse location ?

New guy here with my first ranger 4x4 its an 88 xtracab 2.9 auto , browsed all the threads I could for the location of the supposed 20 amp maxi , cant find it to save my life , I did find my 4x4 ecm it was under the plate in the dash not behind the rear jump seat ,so im confused as to the locations of such items listed in the tech section , my 4wd is not working , the push button overhead has no lights , the 4x4 ecm led tests ok , brand new tcase motor , checked all wires I could find and all tested good with a multi meter, all underdash fuses good , next step 20 amp maxi I cant find ?

The 40A Maxifuse should be in position 9 in the underhood fusebox.

I have no underhood fuse box that I can find , 1988 model , if anyone has a pic that would help , I see you have a 2000 earl43p , I know the newer years obdII have them , been all over mine and there isnt one ?
