I've got a 97 Ranger with the Dana 35 TTB front axle and Warn manual locking hubs. It's time to repack the bearings but I've never done this before and kinda nervous. I've got the grease and the spindle nut socket. Is there anything special I need to know about with these? I'm nervous as hell with all the tiny spacers and snap rings involved here. Also how much grease should be used with this? I've read that overgreasing can cause issues. Thanks for any and all help.

new seals, and take the hub off and repack the spindle bearings too

If you haven't ever taken one of these apart, a good way to start is when your taking all those tiny spacers and snap rings off, lay them on the ground or workbench lined up in the order that you took them off, one at a time. This way, you won't be wondering when your done why you have all theses extra peices. :icon_thumby:

Once you get get the bearings out, put a glob of grease in your hand and 'push' the bearing into it, sideways, making the grease come out the other side, this way you know that you got grease all the way through. And wipe some grease around the spindle also.

Oh, and get a Chilton manual

Ya I was planning on the spindle bearings as well. That's actually what I meant in the first post. Why I didn't say that instead I have no idea, brain fart I guess. What seals are you talking about.

Thanks, I'll definitely do the line-up thing. Is it a good idea to pull the brake caliper and rotor off as well or is that not needed? Also I've got a Haynes manual that's fairly detailed, will that work just as well?

main wheel bearing seal, and there is a seal on the back of the spindle bearing where the axle goes in, also make sure you have a torque wrench and the socket for the manual hub nuts.

Looks like its back to the part store. Thanks for the info, and ya I picked up the special socket.

if you go to the second link, you can print out the breakdown and see all the seals and show the parts store if they are confused

Damn that's a lot of tiny pieces.

ok i went back and yes all of them small parts are coming off, but it looks like alot on paper but its not a problem at all, just make sure you get all the seals.

Looking on that parts list the seals don't have part numbers.

if you look thru the tech library in the ttb section you will find it, i have it printed out but its at home, just tell the parts store you want the spindle bearing seal, i forgot it was there when i did mine and it was a pita getting the old one out without ruining it, i still want to get new ones and rip it back apart.

Oh alright I found it. I'm assuming the Dana 28 and Dana 35 seal kits are interchangeable.
