I was driving today and I saw a guy that hit a deer, went off the road, and into a tree. No damage to his truck.. but his Super V plow is completely destroyed.

Those run what.. six or seven thousand new?

I'm pretty sure that setup runs closer to the 10K mark.

a Western Ultramount 9' V ( that's the smallest width i believe ) with fram , install , wiring harness , and controller is about 9k - 9500 , our 7'6" Ultramount Pro Plus straight blade with the optional wings , plus frame , wiring harness , controller and installation was $5200

Ouch!

Probably bent his frame in the process.

that frame was destined to be f'd with a plow on it anyways..but a big question is, how do you hit a deer and run off the road into a tree. i hit a deer and the truck kept goin straight as can be...:icon_confused:

Probably swerving to miss the deer, but hit it anyway, then hit the tree because he swerved.

If I had a plough on my truck, I'd just hit the deer. You probably wouldn't have much damage from a deer on a plough, anyway.

how do you figure that ? :icon_confused: we ran a 7'6" on our F-150 from day one , for 9 years , and never did any frame damage , hell we hit a deer with it withoug the plow on and the plow frame is what saved the rest of the truck

and the deer must have deflected off the V causing the truck to turn :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl:

Was it a chevy? lol

Hope he's got equipment insurance...

well, let me rephrase that then, if the frame doesnt get messed up by a pliw, the front end will. plows are hell on suspension components. a front end of a normal truck just isnt designed to hold that much weight on them. if it is a super duty, it will hold up longer. the comboned weight from the rig, plow, plow frame coupled with all the sudden jolts and bangs accosiated with plowing eventually takes it toll. All that combined with the salt that is spread everywhere will kill a truck.

and on another note, i still dont see how a deer can hit a truck so hard that it will cause it to turn or veer off the road. that driver must have spazzed out..it just isnt possible, even in icy conditions..200 lb deer vs 8000-12000 lb truck....aint gonna happen

i was surprised that the ball joints on our 150 held up for 8 years before letting go , while we were plowing

and i was being sarcastic

o, sorry dude, can hear sarcasm thru the interweb...;brownbag;

damn, 8 years with of plowing before the ball joints went, that has to be some sort of record! going thru three winters worth of plowing my dads f-250 needs a complete goin thru on the front end. bushings, u joints, u name it...we need it!

This... if I had a plow on my truck, I'd aim for the deer, hit it, and toss it in the back of the truck in the name of "cleaning up roadkill"

Then cook it.

mmmmmmmmm....

mmm, roadkill, now thats some good stuff!!!

Most "Deer accidents" that cause injury or severe damage are
caused by driver over-reaction

Swerving to avoid a 140lb deer that isn't set into the ground
and hitting a 6000lb TREE that is set in the ground is a profoundly stupid act.

Frankly I think passers by witnessing such a situation should club
the driver to death and rush the deer to an animal hospital
