So i bought the m50d r1 with the tone ring just did the tail end housing on it with the speedo gear the thing is it has 3 spots to put it on the actual shaft is it for different gear ratios? or is it all the same mines about 10 km out roughly didn’t know which one just put it on a random spot and sent it. Before I did the Manual swap and just put the 8.8 4.10 was doing the same thing. Another thing the Speedo will not move until reaching 5km then jumps to about 20 maybe the cable is bad or a sticky speedo idk

Sounds like your speedometer cable needs to be lubricated. They can dry out and start getting jumpy.

Mine lets me know when it needs lube by having the speedo bounce from 7mph to 70 mph at about 5mph actual. Most often when it's stupid cold outside.

interesting thanks for the info. That solves one of my problems just leaves one more about placement of the Speedo gear if not I’ll probably buy a reducer or something to get a correct input

Also thoughts on running gear oil in the m5od r1? The guy before me was using it didn’t want to put trans oil and mix both oils from whatever didn’t drain out the plug

I've seen enough complaints about shifting priobems with gear oil that I won’t do it.

Viscosity difference is enough that I doubt you'd be able to shift an M5OD at all below 40F with gear oil in it. Not to mention that it likely wouldn't flow very well into the synchronizers and cause problems shifting that way too.

Well I be maybe that’s why first n second kind of a bich to start out sometimes I think I used 80w 90 gear oil she had a bolt stuck in it too up until I just took the tail end off and seen it I was flabbergasted, what trans oil you recommend kind of like a rubbing grinding noise coming from 5th

I believe Ford wants you to use Mercon something-or-another. I forget the exact designation. Unfortunately, I’ve read that just a drain and fill cycle is not always adequate to restore smooth easy shifting.

Yes, should be dex/merc fluid, probably have to drain and refill a couple times to get it better...

Unfortunately on the 5th gear deal, I hope it's not what I think it is but it's likely the front bearing on the output shaft, that's similar to the symptoms my '90 had when that bearing was shot...
