my tranny is slowly dieing lol the good ol a4ld, Ive heard the m5od is the same length as the a4ld can anyone verify that? and has anyone done this swap before all i usually hear about is the mitsubishi tranny swap but I am trying to avoid modding drveshafts if possible. does the m5od even fit? I have an '87 2.9l 4x4 standard cab. also if anyone knows of driveshaft swaps that would make the mitsu tranny work I'd love to hear about it. - thanks

its the same length. the Mitsubishi fm146 will work as well. both the same lengths. no dshaft mods required.

The FM145 can be put in, you just need the drive shaft off a truck that is the same as yours, but with the 145.

you're talking u joints right?
I'm kinda confused about this stuff because two of the threads in the tech library says the fm145 moves toward the engine about 2" and requires a longer rear and shorter front shafts and theres another swap in the tech library where its not even mentioned as a problem
have you guys actually done this and know for sure?

thats one thread in the tech library my bad, but the one that dosent mention messing with the shafts does mention changing the u joints, are the new joints longer? and what would i do about making the front one shorter?
