Luke's Baboon Ranger

Axles are finally out of the shop. They put the diffs in and welded on the spring perches for me. They also started on the c-clip eliminator kit, I just wanted them to press the bearings on to the shafts. Oh well, at least that work is done.

Here's some pics.

Spring perches

Chopped off the old mounts and brackets

I just need to clean the 8.8 up a little more and paint it.

Thanks! I'm still a ways off from slapping them under, but slow progress is better than no progress.

I got the 8.8 all cleaned and painted up. I was also able to get the shafts in and brakes all put together.

The shafts needed a little persuasion with a rubber mallet to get fully seated but other than that the C-clip eliminator kit was very easy to install. I also installed all new parking brake stuff (those tensioning springs are a PAIN to install).

Shiny new calipers and rotors

Got the front diff cover installed. I use RTV instead of the provided gaskets, hasn't failed me yet.

I didn't bother cleaning up the rear diff cover, a new one is going on.

I want to steal your rear axle. Are you going to keep the 64's?

Yep, I need to tweak them though. They're a little stiff so I'll end up removing a leaf when I do the swap. I'm probably going to need longer shocks too, my current skyjacker ones max out when the springs still have a ways to go.

Decided to throw my long arms on today. I was able to torque the passenger side but one of the driver side spring washers deformed while I was tightening it. I had the torque wrench set to 90 foot pounds (the minimum in the instructions) but it still gave way. I'll just have to pick up a new one from home depot.

sweet build so far looking forward to the SAS

Well, it's been over a year since I've posted anything on here, But I figure I'd just show what I've done... so here it is.

Ripped out the D35

Taking the bed off made things easier for the Explorer 8.8

8.8... Ignore the jacked up break lines lol.

D44 all put together. Warn Hubs, Reid Racing knuckles, chromoly shafts, ARB and 5.13 gears.

Front put on.

I didn't take many pictures of the proses (mostly because I forgot) but here's the "finished" product; if there is such a thing.

All them zip-ties are holding the parking brake cable off the ground, I'll get around to fixing it.
