low power runs rough

well I was using a solus code reader and you just push a button and it says it clears the codes. After i cleared them though i get the same codes again so idk if it actually cleared them or if they just come right back. My buddy wants to do a compression test on it so i am going to humor him even though the engine only has 84,000 miles i hope that it checks ok.(itll be good cuz idk how to use one yet) If that checks ok ill disconect the bat to be sure check the air temp sensor and try to check my codes again. If I have time ill try to see if there is a short in my tps somewhere or a pinched wire idk. Im tryin to do all this while still usin it as my dd and goin to high school. But at least i am learnin till i get to college. The diamond in a pile of shit i guess.:D

There's this thread: http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108299, where that guy is having TPS problems also. It sounds like he is going to replace the ECU on his. Maybe it's a common problem with these ECUs in which that circuit burns out or maybe there's a common wiring problem. Either way, follow that thread to see what he comes up with. You mentioned earlier that some of your electrodes were bent (I must've missed it). That would have me worried a little. The only time I've seen that was on my 2.5L Nissan when it decided to eat the screws off of the butterflies. Some Mazdas had the same problem also a few years ago. I guess it's cheaper to manufacture vehicles without threadlock. Anyway, maybe some pieces of piston rings broke off inside the combustion chambers and did some damage. I don't know what else could've done that.

Ya ive been loking at that thread and he seems to have some kind of filter clog or line clogged or something but im getting good fuelr pressure to the rail. O and when i said my electrodes were bent im pretty sure its because they were already too low heat rating (copper core) and because i was forced to run it out of timing for a few miles and it ****ed them up:D

I'm not sure because I haven't used a code reader but I don't think clearing the codes is the same as resetting the ECM. Anyone know for sure?

so i was thinkin the other day bout how the injectors werent firing and it hit me maybe the wires got messed up or pinched when i had the engine pulled. So i was talkin to my stepdad bout it and he gave me injector wires to try out. I was so exited, got them on, and nothing. :annoyed: So now im pretty sure its got to be the injectors and i am about to the point of begging ppl. btw anyone have any spare 2.9 injectors :D.

Maybe I missed it, but did anyone of you mention there is really two fuel filters. One is before the frame fuel pump that holds a replaceable filter. The second filter is after the frame mounted pump and it is the can type. Thought I would add this point, and I just changed mine.

Yes i know there is two (if you dont count the strainer in the tank) but as stated before i got good fuel pressure to the fuel rail so its nothing before that.

Victory is mine! I finally got injectors and it was runnin like a champ. I had so much power i had to try not to chirp the tires:yahoo:. But even though i have power now it skips out and kind of jolts. I thought it was a misfire but then I set my base timing and it still does it. Plus now i got a noise that i suspect is valve noise. This weekend im gonna take of my valve covers and check my rockers and torque them hopefully that does it.

Good to hear. I need to get around to replacing my injectors too because mine is lacking low end pretty badly and the top end isn't there at all (at least comparing to the old '88 I had years ago). My compression, fuel pressure, and ignition are all good so it really only leaves my injectors which I believe are shot. I tried taking them out and soaking them for a day, but that didn't do much. People need to realize that injectors are moving parts and they do wear. Anyway what ones did you go with, Accel ones from Summit Racing? Good luck with the whole valve lash adjustment thing. I've had my valve covers off several times to adjust them and still I get a tick from time to time. I have a few that are real spongy which you can feel with when you put the adjusting wrench on the bolt. I basically had to settle on having a cold valve tap. Sometimes it lasts a few seconds, sometimes a couple of minutes. If I made it so there wasn't a cold valve tap then the valves wouldn't be closing fully (you would loose some compression). I've had lots of different vehicles with high mileage and never had lifter issues. The only time I would ever even have anything remotely close to what these 2.9s do in other vehicles was when it was close to oil change time. I'm still waiting to hear if the 2.8 solid lifters would work in the 2.9 (there's a thread about it). Unfortunately it sounds like the heads need to come off in order to replace them.

The injectors i got were off of a Bronco II that i picked up for 50 bucks only thing wrong with it is all windows and lights are broken and interior is shot. But anyways i grabbed those cleaned em up a bit, made sure they cycled, and got a new set of seals and caps (22 bucks! Steal!). But now like i said its kinda hesitating so I figured hell with it Ill get the fuel filters for it. I replaced the secondary cylinder one no problem but on the fuel reservoir i opened it and no filter:icon_confused: So i went to checker and my buddy said that the ones with the little pickup deal and the longer cap dont use filters. What?! Whats the point of the damn thing if it dont have a filter.:annoyed: I dont know anyone know more about these canisters and which have filters?

Ok so im a bit quick to ask ?s. My "accumulator" is the longer one and should not need a filter. But now im curious::icon_idea: Would it be okay to drill a hole in the filter that came with the o ring and rig it to slide on the pickup rather than throw it away? I think it couldnt hurt, just another filter and the damn thing is apart already anyway. Anyone have any idea if this would cause problems?
