Anyone here a Lotus owner?

I'm looking at picking up a 2006 Lotus Elise (base model) with 50,000 miles on it. the price is right and I'm willing to travel as far as necessary to pick her up.

Before i go ahead and make the purchase, I'm sort of curious as to the cost of maintenance. Its powered by a Toyota ZZ2-GE, the very same engine in a corolla so parts availability shouldn't be terrible. anyone have any further details on parts availability?

Before anyone asks why, drive one, you'll understand why.

I do understand as a friend of mine has an Exige. I can tell you this, the engine and stuff will likely give you no trouble at all, almost ever. However, brake parts can be a bitch to obtain and are a tad spendy. At least on the Exige.

does he go through brake hardware pretty quick? i figured a car that weighs in under a ton wouldn't go through brakes that quickly. do you know where he sources brake parts? since the two cars are essentially the same (the Exige is a tad heavier, has some bolt on go fast stuff, and the body is a little more race friendly) I'll prolly have just as much trouble.

those things are smaller than miata's, i couldnt fit my legs in there

I'm 6' 1" and i fit quite comfortably....

I am 6ft and also fit with no trouble at all. I'll have to ask him where he gets parts. I know he chews brakes because of trackdays, not so much the weight.

that makes sense. mines going to be my daily driver.... at first....

Later on down the road i would love to throw a supercharger and an intercooler on it, rip off everything to do with power steering, lighten things up a little and get her ready for the track.

Ugly in any other color but blue or black....please tell me it's blue or black or I'm making fun of you.

For those of us that like the engineering standpoint of cars, the Lotus line is beautiful no matter the color. These things are absolute animals in the curves. Hell, the Exige will embarrass people in a straight line if the driver is good.

Just giving shit, me and him are friends. :icon_thumby:

But still.....it better be blue or black!

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. who cares what it looks like when it drives like that. Wish I still had my seven.

If i were buying brand new, it'd be as black as black can get. since i don't have $63,000 (a few extras) laying around, its whatever color i can afford. in this case, its red.

Here she is Clicky. not my color of choice, that's a simple enough fix...

That's not SO bad. Just as long as it wasn't yellow. lol

Plus it has SOME black. Sharp.

sleek car, always wanted one even though it's got a yota mill in it. The only downer with that particular car is that it's got Kumhos. Previous owner went dirt cheap on those, seems like you are lucky to get 20-30k miles on kumho tires.
