I was looking for the vehicle speed sensor, the replacement for my 1986 2.9L with the M50 trans that I purchased with the worm gear and wiring harness is not present. my speedometer cable enters behind the transfer case right above the driveshaft. The only sensor I have located is threaded in the transmission on the right hand side and has a ball bearing at the end of the threading. I can not attach any photos at this time. The following is stamped on it Pollack E27B-15520-ac could this be the spped sensor?

The VSS reads a toothed ring against the ring gear in the rear diff. (I'm not sure about the older trucks, but on my 2000 the vss was bolted in at the top of the diff housing)

Look for a wrapped wire set running to your axle. If the sensor on the end is a magnet that's most likely your VSS.

(E27B-15520-ac) sound like Back Up Lamp Switch ...........speed sensor see it on tailshaft housing or I think more the 93 its on top diff housing

can you add the m5od to your truck. the original tranny was the toyo right?

It probabily is the BU switch, it is in the location of where the Vss should be right handside of transmission, The manual I have and the online manual do not say anything about having to remove anything to get to it.I will check out the speedometer cable again it looked like it was retained on and there was no wiring harness near it. The older models had the VSS on the trans later moved to the rear. the original trans is either a Mazda or a Mitsubishi depending on where and when manufactured.

Go to the tech forum. I am pretty sure an 86 with 2.9 2wd is the toyo.

the speed sensor should be at the transmission side of the speedo cable. here is a link to a page with pictures of the sensor. you will have to type the part number (sc46) in the part number field after clicking the part number tab and the pics will come up.

you will probably have to swap the gear onto the sensor, but if you dont have one that could be tricky because they made multiple sizes. heres a link to info about the gears
