Anyone know of some? All I can think of is Honda Civics.. but they only get about 26 city in the 96+ models apparently.

Dodge Neons get semi decent mileage, but they're crap IMO.

zx2's have been known to push 40+ with a few cheap mods and a light right foot

keep it classic with the escort, got my escort with 18k miles for $2000. I dont think I got under 25mpg while owning it

SMART CAR!!!!! then turn it into a Smart Diablo Car...think about it, a car the size and shape of an egg, with a hayabusa engine... 14K rpm and Rwd...

Our old one got about 45 average, but it was ugly as sin. I'm looking for something sporty.

I know a few people that have had issues with ZX2's. I tend to stray away from the escort lines.. maybe a focus? I wonder what kind of mpg they get..

I have a 96 Ford Contour with a 2.0 Zetec, 5speed and I get between 28-34mpg regularly depending on how I drive.

what issues?? the only thing i can think of that is 'common' is the differential grenading when its abused. be nice to it (which youll be doing if you are trying to get good mileage anyways) and they hold up just fine.

btw, from what i hear the focuses are a little heavier. i dont know how they do for mileage but i wouldnt be surprised if its slightly lower.
