Looking for a car. 35mpg+ in the 3000-5000 dollar range.

I know a few people that have had issues with ZX2's. I tend to stray away from the escort lines.. maybe a focus? I wonder what kind of mpg they get..

My sister has a Tracer (same car) with about 150k on it and it has never had a single issue other than a timing belt. She just changes the oil in it and it keeps going... gets mid 30's if I remember right

i have an 07 focus 5speed with the 2.0 and i get 35 mpg with normal driving and the best i have gotten is 38

My Wife and I just got rid of a '99' zx2 escort and it did amazing for gas milage. However I don't ever want to give up the heated leather seats in our '07' edge that we got to replace it!

Saturn ..... the SL/SW/SC 1....... has a better transmission and R&P ratio than the twin cam does..... any from 1992 - 2002 would do fine and would be on the low side of your price range and like toyota they run forever. our 2000 (or was it a 2001?) got a high of 47 mpg on a trip from Seattle to where we live now and on another trip I took it on I averaged 87 mph and got 39 mpg on that trip.

what issues??
All three of them had engine related issues. It would randomly start making a grinding noise, lose power, stall, and then not start for a while.

A Geo Metro.
I'm actually going to check on one, except it is a convertable! Never seen one like that before.

I don't know, sounds as if this gentleman wants a cadalic with 50 mpg.Good luck! obamma rules
It sounds as if this gentleman should stop trolling threads.

I can sell you a motorcycle that will get 70mpg and only cost you $1500. :-)
I plan on buying my brothers buell in spring, he'd ask about 1000-1200. 40-60mpg and made by Harley. :D

Mmm.. heated leather.. the Dakota I looked at today had that. But it also has the bigger V8 so about 10city/16hwy. Ew.

Dodge Neons get semi decent mileage, but they're crap IMO.

I used to drive a Neon at work. It's taken a great amount of abuse and never really had any problems. It's a very well-handling nimble car too. I'd recommend one. ;brownbag;

Our old one got about 45 average, but it was ugly as sin. I'm looking for something sporty.

Sporty and 35+ mpg don't usually go together well unless you're talking about motorcycles.

Some cars that get decent mileage...

Ford Focus, Escort
Hyundai Accent, Elantra
Honda Civic
Toyota Corolla
Pontiac Sunfire
Chevy Cavalier
Small Saturn cars in general
Geo Metro
Kia Rio

Obviously there are more, but that's all I can think of right now

35+ is on the high side for mpg. There really aren't that many cars that get that kind of mileage. Diesel is probably your best bet.

Make sure you get the flower seat and steering wheel covers with that one :icon_thumby:

Well, I meant cars that get good gas mileage. Anything above 28 is good, just some people consider 20 to be good (what my ranger SHOULD get) but since I drive somewhere around 120 miles a day, I need better than that. And by sporty I meant not a coupe or a wagon. I'm not looking for a powerfull car that will do high 30's in mpg but still manage to be a 10 second car with a little work. That's not possible.

I might..........

....since after me and my girlfriend move in togeather she'd be the one driving it.

Volkswagen Diesels-the older ones(79-86 rabbits, golf caddy or jetta) are slow as dirt but most get around 45-50 mpg.

yea my dad owned an 84-85-8something diesel vw rabbit, one of the early ones that was converted to diesel, that thing would run 45-50 mpg's, no balls whatsoever tho..he owned it way back when diesel was cheaper than gas..1.49 a gallon, i was 12 XD lol

you could check craigslist, i bought a toyota corrolla for 200$ and it had nothing wrong besides sparkplug wires, and cosmetic things. Great car, until the exhuast crapped out (the WHOLE system needed to be replaced, due to me trying to fix it, with a lack of tools lol) which would have ran 500$ including labor. i junked it, but for the 31 mpg it got, i wish i fixed and kept it.

what are everyone's thought on ford focus's, particularly a 2000 sedan with an auto.

Koda sorry if you don't want this in here i just didn't want a new thread when the info should be available here. :icon_twisted:
