Looking at maybe picking up an '89 Jeep Cherokee... Info?

you can add coil spacers (if there are not any already installed), yes.. if the lift on it is a true 3" coil spring lift w/out spacers then yeah, add a spacer to it.

but seriously, TRIM THOSE FENDERS!

I had a '90' Cherokee with the auto and 4.0L had no real problems with it for 140K miles, that's when I finially replaced the pads and rotors. Rust started right in the middle of one of the side panels. Great Winter DD. I'd of bought another but they quit making them.

I kinda like the flared look tho O.o lol

Still waiting on a reply back from the guy and for the person buying my car, then hopefully i can pick it up. The more i think of it, the more i want it lol And the fact that it already has the lift installed is a major plus since i've never done one myself sot hats out of the way. Altho if i would have done it myself, i would have gone bigger of course :P But it should be a true 3" lift so hopefully i can get some more lift from spacers.

then add the flare back?? its just body work!

They make aftermarket flares that will give you the added room (after trimming), and the look you like.

Lol the main problem with that is my lack of skill in that department. Wouldnt be too hard i can imagine, but im a bit of a perfectionist and i would want it to look professional. It will be my DD, and while i will take it offroading the odd time, it still needs to be relatively shiny :icon_twisted:

All in good time tho, first i need to get it! I always get so damn excited and plan out five million things im gonna do to the thing, and then things dont work out and my heart sinks haha :icon_rofl:

This i will probably look into later. If i do get the truck, i think the first thing i will do is mount some lights on the roof :headbang:

Heres a pic from the add for sh!#s :P

looks good. add a logan's bumper up front.. a tire carrier/ backbone system in the rear.. basket roof rack up top w/ hi-lift. HID lights up top and up front. buy some Hella's and convert them over w/ DDM tuning kits-- cheap way to get HIDs!

and look at all the room you'd clear up if you cut those flares off... you'd clear 33's as it sits i'm sure. lol, yeah yeah... i know... i'm just messing with ya now. lol.

but it does look good.

should be bushwacker cutoff flares.. to pricey just to scuff up and rip off on rocks/trees...

i say practice your body work and but the factory flares back on, molded in... just body work. lol, a bit more annoying since they have factory plastic flares.. i'd trim it and leave it a lot... it can be done CLEAN!

here's a post from a friend on MSJ

Since you like the pics, here are some for reference...

3" lift and 31x10.5 tires on an 8" rim

3" lift on the rear 7" lift on front with 31" tires

7" of lift on 35" tires and trimmed fenders

A 10.5" wide tire on a 10" wide rim would look like one of those Mexican lowriders you see with the sidewall being so much wider than the rim. I've seen people run 12.5" wide tires on a 10" rim and even they have the sidewall sticking out like a bubble.

I say trim your fenders and run whatever size tire you want. It's super easy to do and if you just have to have fenders you can put the stock ones back on up to a certain point. I didn't like the look of trimmed fenders till I did it and now I wouldn't have it any other way. In Arkansas the tires don't have to be covered. The YJ on tons and 42''s I just sold....I took it to the local pd and asked them if it was street legal. They said it was awesome and to drive the hell out of it!

here's the thread it came from.. other xj stuff on there.
look around on naxja.com (i think that's it).. for more xj info.

Lol well i definately dont "plan" on ripping them off on rocks or trees :P Like i said, this would be my DD, but i would of course have some fun with it as well. I might look into the bigger flares later on, those first few looked pretty good.

I need a stock flare for the RF of my 97 XJ.
So far I like mine. I wouldn't dismiss it unless it has had obvious abuse.
