Let Me see you CB!

Im looking at a firestick 2 antenna and like it because the adjustable tip anyone running it? Heard anything about em? I plan on running it on the roof with a dome mount and a stainless spring. I currently have a cheap cobra 19 DX IV that ill be running till I can get a new one. I might throw in a 200 watt linear if needed. Hows tha setup sound???:icon_thumby:

I have mine mounted on a box on the tranny hump of my F-150. I like the looks of it down there and new vehicles don't give you a decent place to mount it to. I found the box thing in the garage from back when my dad was messing around with CB's. It originally had a aux speaker (it was shot) where I now have my aux light switch mounted.

I started out with a 3' Firestick II behind the back of the cab, after 6 months the plastic outer coating was splitting up at the top revealing the inner windings... I have had a 4' K-40 since then (for about 4 months) and I like it better, and it seems to be holding good too.

New choice, I'm getting a wilson 1000 Magnetic mount on the roof!!

Does anyone else have pics of what theyre runnin?

I'll get some pics to ya in the next few days. I'm runnin a Cobra 148GTL and twin 4' sticks. Oh, BTW if you get a radio that has SWR calibration, you don't have to worry about gettin an antenna that's "tuneable". On that note though, all antennas are tunable, just some have a little screw type deal and the others you have to take the cap off and cut the wire.

yes but its a lot easier if you can just screw a tip and im moving further and further away from fiberglass whips i've got my heart set on a wilson 1000 right now.

ok, I agree with you there. I was just saying that if you get a radio with SWR calibration knob on it, the actual tuning of the antenna isn't as important since you can adjust it through the radio as your goin down the road.

Ask a trucker. Those internally tuneable radios are nice, but no where near as good as tuning the antenna. Get a good standalone SWR meter and tune the antenna. Unless of course you only need to throw a mile or two.

You can get a good day with an untuned setup but if you want to throw a good distance signal in all conditions, tune the radio and antenna properly.

I mounted mine in front of the shifter, out of the way and easy to get at

Yea ask anyone its all about the antenna, you could have a 15 dollar radio with a nice, tuned antenna and out talk someone with a 100 dollar cb and 15 dollar antenna any day

Exactly. Antenna and install is key. I blow people away with my crappy "peaked" Midland and a Wilson Trucker 5000 with a 10 inch shaft and 48"whip. Nicely grounded and the radio is fed through a nice clean power supply.

Yeah im gettin a wilson 5000 i think, I was lookin at 1000's thinking the 5's were more expensive but there basically the same price!!

bump, did anyone put a cb in where the astray goes?? Pics of all cb setups are great, antennas too show em off

ARRRRGH!!!:pissedoff:

Why is it that Cb people think they need 600 freaking watts to get out???

My "Big" ham radio has 100w and I have communicated effectively with people in CA (from NY) on both AM and SSB

When the bands open up, all that extra power does is create problems for other people on the frequency and create potential problems for people in other bands in case your install isn't just running on the 11 meter band.

Legal limit BTW, is 4 watts.

Typical Ham op... :icon_rofl:

He would hate my CB setup. :shok:

I think I already posted this in your thread on RPS but I will post it over here.

I'm not posting any specs on my amp other then its a one driving four. :D
I just recently put all new Belden 8x coax on everything with some nice silver/bronze ends, even the coax going to the antenna.

Stay away from Firesticks, just go out and get a Wilson 5000 magnet mount. Make sure you get the antenna tuned, any decent CB shop should be able to do it for you, most will even do it for free when you buy an antenna.

Heres where I mounted my old cobra 19, I had it there for a few months till I got my new radio. The only problem was that I couldn't use the right cup holder with larger cups/bottles.

Heres my new Cobra 25 that has tons of stuff done to it.
It's peaked and tuned with a dial-a-watt, swing kit, echo and talkback. 1.5watt deadkey and it swings around 45watts. Then i have the amp after it and a Wilson 5000.

I've talked to people allover North America on my current setup.
