Normally the "extra" wire is a ground, but if it "must be fused" then I would assume its a power wire.

are they on the truck or a trailer???

if its on the truck then you will need a eletronic flasher or soder in a resistor in to the wireing to the turn signal, they should still flash but be fast the fact LED hardly draw any juice makes the flasher "think" you have a lamp out and cause the rapid flash

if its on the trailer and your truck has amber turn signals in the back than its your trailer light converter

The last time I had a bulb on my '85 out I am pretty sure my the other light and indicator where on constant until the switch canceled.

Mine too is a constant. But with new flasher nothing works...

The lead is a ground, the terminals are backwards....
