I have the 4ALD auto tranny and have noticed a littte red puddle under my truck. I looked and it appears to be coming from the shift linkage. The linkage does appear to be on the loose side (there is a little play when pulling away from the tranny housing). I have not yet tried to just simply tighten the nut because I couldn't find any torque specs for it and I didn't know if overtightening would damage any of the inside components. Has anyone ever had this problem or had to replace the seal that the linkage runs through? Should I just tighten it up until the drip stops? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would tighten it up a few turns slowly to see if it gets any tighter and stops dripping. Do like half a turn then check it for leaks. If the bolt is loose it needs tightened. Torque specs or not it shouldn't leak. If it is tight and leaking autozone or a ford dealership can get the part # for that o ring.
