Hey guys, this morning I went out to my truck and noticed that ALL of my antifreeze had leaked out. After jacking it up I noticed that the leak had originated from one of the soft plugs on the passenger side. After consulting with my Dad, the only thing we can think to do is pull the engine and attempt to replace or repair the plug. I am curious if anyone has had problems like this before, or know what to do. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. My Ranger, I call him Jarvis, is a 91 3.0 manual V6. purely stock and my daily.

Jarvis and I thank you for your help.

I think you are talking about one of the frost plugs. I am currently driving an 86 ranger with a 2.9 that had a plug pop out. I fixed it with a rubber plug, that expands in the hole when you turn the nut on the captured bolt. It's been 9 months so far. I did lose a rubber plug one time as I installed it slightly crooked. It lasted about 7 months. Both of these would have required engine removal in order to get a regular plug in.
Good luck,

Richard

+1 on the rubber replacement. They are just as good and can be installed much easier.

Only thing I can add to this is, do not be tempted to just tap the leaking plug into the block.

Pull it out so it does not obstruct the coolant passages.

I know some have done it with no problems but do you feel lucky?

Yes the rubber plugs are the easiest to deal with and produce good results.
