Just Plain Stupied

I just spent the better part of a day reading this and BOY!!!!! what an intersting read.
I really don't know anyone here and you guys had me LMAO. People kept looking in my office and wondering why I was laughing.
Doorgunner, You are doing an amazing job while dealing with deep personal issues. Keep up the excellent work. My prayers will always be with you and your family.
Thank you all for the wonderful entertainment and teaching me how much a build like this is actually worth. Priceless I would say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe I ran across this build. I have almost the same project as you Doorgunner. I bought a project truck that someone had started and didnt have the time to finish. Its the standard cab 36 from coachworks on a 94 ranger chassis with a 5.0 from an 88 mustang. The guy didnt get to far with it before other things stopped him from working on it.

I also have had some problems getting started. Soon after I bought the truck we lost my wifes father and a short time later her mother. We where all very close and it was really hard on my wife. So the truck got pushed aside as we took care of each other and all the things associated with their passing. Its been almost 3 years since I bought the truck and done anything with it. I have been thinking of selling it but after reading this I am excited to start working on it again.

Keep up the good work and know God is looking over you and your family.

Jnjed & Gregs.......thanks........between God ( Jesus too-but don't tell anybody i said the J word!) & the guys at TRS......it's getting done.........

(Gregs....tell your wife to hang in there til she sees Heaven & everybody she misses.....)

Buy your parts 1 @ A Time if you have too.....then you gotta put it together!

I'm trying to keep things on the light side...no documentary here/guh-huk/guh-huk....

Maybe tomorrow....inspection sticker time....

B-a-a-a-a-ck to the go-rajjjj....

I would just like to say thanks for picking this site and us to share your build with.

NOW..................Take a couple of happy pills and get that truck inspected! You wrench wielding lunatic!:icon_twisted:

copperhead......thanks......

I was reading up about setting the pinion angle on the rear axle (since I lowered the truck 3/5)....

One of the TRS members told me a while back to set it at 6* negative (the pinion yoke should nose down 6*) so when the power (LOL from the 2.9L hits the rear axle....it will tilt up slightly....which is a good thing.....

So......forget what I said previously about pinion setting....it would only apply to Corvettes (p-p-p-tuueey/there...I got the bad taste outta my mouth)

Tomorrow...

reset pinion angle/install windshield wipers/go get inspected

I've noticed you keep heading "B-a-a-a-a-ck to the go-rajjjj...." after you post...ever thought of just taking your laptop into the go-rajjj?
Just a suggestion. :icon_idea:

great thread. i can't wait until i find all of the info i need to find out if i can mate a '56' f100 body onto a late '90's ranger. or if i'll have to start from scratch. i'm going in several directions for the build. but following your project helps a bit. i'm still trying to find a source for all steel body. i've located almost all of the other required parts, to get started.

again, you have a great looking truck.

About the only thing I have done is collected parts. I am still working out the accesories for the front of the engine (alt,ps pump, a/c) since the front end is sooo much narrower.

I went down to Mt Dora a couple of times and talked to Gil about the whole project and looked around the shop. It looks like the easiest engine to use is a Chevy 350 because there are so many different brackets, oil pans, headers, etc. available. But I have wanted to stick with the Ford in a Ford idea.

Its interesting that you chose to go with a steel bed, the original owner purchased the complete body kit with the windows installed. I have played around with the body placement and thats really what I need to do next. I want to see if I can mount the body lower on the frame rails to close up the gap between the top of the tires and fenders. The original owner already lowered the truck so theres no more adjustment there. But I have to work with how the engine, radiator and trans fits in relation to the bottom of the cab and firewall.

I would definately be interested in seeing any other pictures you may have when you where assembling the truck and am also interested in how the title and registration work out. Keep up the good work!

Good suggestion......but it's the VA meds....I can only stay focused on something for a limited time....that's why it's taken so long to do a 1 month project....

thanks a bunch......from experience (having to do things over & over...LOL).....I's say you should check the wheelbase of the '56 and compare it to the wheelbase of the chassis your thinking of buying...if the wheel bases are more than an inch different, you'll have to modify the bed of the '56 or the length of the late model chassis to keep the wheels centered in the wheel wells.

Also, the distance from the outside of the front tires is important...they need clearance to prevent jamming up against the front fenders when turning while going up a curb! (example: The '36 truk front fenders measure about 57" from the inside edge of each wheel well....I had to buy rims & tires that were less than 56" when installed on the Ranger chassis & had to set the body so that there was 2" of clearance between the top of the tire & the lip of the fender (for going up those curbs).

The rest of the project is a matter of setting the body on the late model chassis.... stacking short pieces of wood between the body & the chassis to get all the clearances correct...... & centering the body over the tires before doing any bracket-fabbing/welding.

Whew!!!!

I just installed the w/wiper arms &got in the '36 a few minutes ago to drive to town & get the safety inspection done......

I pulled my seat-belt into place &..........:icon_surprised:............no click!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot to bolt the seat belt latch to the seat bracket.....guh-huk/guh-huk

B-a-a-a-a-ack to the go-rajjjjjj to bolt the clickers in place.........hope the spection folks stay open ti 5pm.....

DG you're taking longer in that garage than a woman does in the bathroom.

DG you're taking longer in that garage than a woman does in the bathroom.

That's probably because his woman is in the garage with him. :hottubfun:

Now THAT is a very reasonable excuse for all the inspection delays.

Nice work, DG.

:bawling:

my 20 year old alternator (you know the one!) just went out on the way to get the '36 inspected.............

:D
However......the battery lasted long enough for the truk to be test driven by the technician........

:annoyed:
When he returned.......he turned the engine off to do the paperwork......the engine wouldn't start for him to back the truk out of the inspection area.....

But he already installed the...........:icon_surprised:
