just another ranger

35 12.5 15 goodyear wrangler mtrk. This should fit nicely with the 4" lift I'm shooting for.

I think I will just put the intake from the 94 on the 97 so I don't have to change the complete harness. Should be simple, I already installed the non egr exhaust manifolds.

I've done pretty much the same swap (96 4.0L replacing a 94 4.0L).

From what I can remember off the top of my head, I went with the 94 upper and lower intake on the 96 engine. I also used the non-EGR manifolds. Worked just fine.

There is a cam position sensor on the back of the 96 engine (in my case). You don't need it with the 94 electronics, so either A) leave it unplugged (there's no plug for it anyway) or B) switch out the same part with the attached gear (but no connector) from the 94 engine (I forget what this part was called ATM, but that's what I did with my swap).

You will not need to worry about changing the computer if you change the transmission. My 96 engine was from an automatic, and it went in front of an M5OD in my 94.

Other than those things that I can remember, it was a pretty straightforward swap. I only wish I had replaced the valve seals before I dropped it in (mine turned out to be leaking :annoyed:).

Those are the Superior shackles aren't they? Be aware that I ended up using the recommended 2* shims to angle my pinion back down after installing them. Also, you can't put the springs in the second hole up for less lift. The arched shape of the plate prevents it from seating.

They are the superior brand shackles, I will keep in mind about the shims. I plan on running them in the bottom hole, hadn't even considered the other hole. Thanks for the input.

Well after much debating and researching it is in my best interest to change my front axle situation while I'm at this stage. I don't see the 35 front with the doubler and 35s getting along. Throw in the front locker, long travel suspension, a 4.0 and my wheeling style spell failure. I will go ahead and do a sas. I have a dana 30 from a 96 cheokee I might consider.

dana 30 will likely fail just as soon if not sooner than a dana 35, it uses the same u joints. many of members wheel with 35's on the dana 35.

From all the things I've seen, I have to ask. What axles DO use a stronger U-joint than the 760x?

The 30 I have already has aftermarket shafts. I would not have to worry about broken lift brackets, steering issues as much or shafts and hubs. Every build I read that involves a 4.0, doubler, locked ttb and 35s had resulted in carnage and a sas.

Well after talking with my brother that had the dana 30 it does not have aftermarket shafts like he said.
I will just slap my ttb under and save for a built 44. Who knows, the ttb might work like a dream.

For those of you who have ran xj springs on ttb I have a question. I have the xj coil spring isolater and the 1 1/2" npt hardware for the spring to sit on. Should I put the plug in the npt hardware and drill a hole for the stud and to make sure it stays center?
