Talk about a brain fart moment. I might need to have a CAT scan.

update; vibration is gone. i must have had something together wrong or something. all is good again! also, rear main seal much easier than i thought! yesterday was a win in my book

the time has finally come for me to upgrade the front suspension. the stock ranger hubs were needing new bearings after each trip and i was just tired of it. what started as just new beams, radius arms and steering has snowballed into a full front half rebuild. there goes my summer!
started off with cutting EVERYTHING off the front of the frame. old engine cage and all. decided to switch over to manual brakes so i can lean my shock back as far as possible and get good motion on it.

i managed to mount a big pedal in the "factory" location while still utilizing the big aluminum steering colum mount SCORE! and will be using dual tilton master cylinders to contol braking (hopefully)

next up is mounting new suspension components. first will be attaching the new pivot brackets for the radius arms and the beams! heres the radius arm mounts

also, per gf request, i sold my harley so naturally i treated myself to new beadlock wheels =]

updates coming soon! hopefully

finished the truck!
heres some pics

put the truck on the dyno to see what the 4.0 ohv has to offer.
specs are 4.0 ohv stock with 100k miles. c4 transmission, 35" tires and 5.13 gears
before tune was about 83hp. after was 100hp/148tq

my buddy did his next
4.0 sohc stock. c4 trans 37" tires and 5.43 gears. after tune 184hp/202tq

a motor swap is in my future. not sure what though.

Damn. That's...Nothing.

Blower kit time. Or 4.6.

My votes at least. ??‍♂️

pretty damn pathetic. im pricing out a 3.7 swap from a guy down here who has been doing alot of em lately. if its less than a LS swap ill do it, if its similar in price then ill go for an LS with an overdrive trans.

theres also the thought to keep it simple and swap a 4.0 sohc in

That's what a slushbox will do for ya.. Rob HP you can't afford to lose.
built c4? i would say they would fare better with a c4 then a m5od in this application. the tq converter is big in situations that the clutch would be screaming for a doubler.

deep sand is a mutha.

i liken my 6.2 to a 4.0 for on road performance general driving....but it would be the opposite off road...where a manual trans would make it better.

i am a huge fan of the cyclones....see them as the modern 302.

I wasn't speaking of capabilities or practicality. I was talking specifically about HP loss..

yeah its a built c4. completely rollerized and all that
in my opinion manual transmissions dont last in offroad.(unless its a purpous built sequential box) you need the slip that a converter gives you. the shock loads coming from the tires when they leave the ground and touch down again every other second is insane and with a manual trans it puts a lot of wear on everything in your parts that get power to the ground.

yeah ive been doing some research on em and they seem like a very decent option. should be getting a price on the wiring harness and bellhousing adapter sometime this week.

so i recently picked up a sohc 4.0 out of an explorer for the truck from a friend and im looking into replacing the timing chains before i put it in. im seeing timing chain kits with and without a balance shaft. now, i understand that the balance shaft came in the 4wd models. without taking it apart, is there a way to determine some sort of engine code from markings on the block? i looked for the serial number but couldnt find it. anyone know where it might be?
