So my gf is looking at getting a new(ish) SUV, and one of the ideas she was tossing around was a Jeep Liberty. Anyone have one? What problems do they typically have? Are they worth it? Thoughts? Perspectives? Opinions?

my thought is get a ford. just kiddin shes bying it. sure for a girl if she wants one. plus chicks who can drive 5 spd are nice

My buddys old lady has one.

There not bad little trucks, not as capable as her 95 S10 blazer was, but alot more reliable.

I would put in a vote for an expedition (pre 03).

She can drive stick...that was a requirement for dating me :D however she doesn't want standard herself, which is a shame, but it's her car...(and gas money)

Anyway, an Expedition, while nice, is a bit on the big side. She was also looking at Escapes, although I'm not too fond of them myself, it's a bit like riding in a lumber wagon. Don't know too much about them, either.

I've always liked Wranglers, so I figured a Liberty wouldn't be too far removed, however I've never owned neither and I don't know anyone who does, so that's why I'm looking for input.

Check into the problem with the front spindles/suspension I had a Cherokee for over 145K miles and loved it. Needed to replace it but not with a Liberty.

My fiancé' had a Liberty and loved it. I hated it because if your over 5'10" you won't fit very well into it. She rolled it. It has a VERY high center of gravity and rolls easily. Other than that she didn't have any problems with it. Hope that helps.

My girlfriend had one I thought it was alright. It did have the recall problem and dropped the front end on the ground going through town.

I think they look good with a 3" lift

Capt Jay: How long/how many miles did she have it for?

Lifted2x: What recall problem?

I think it was about 60k and she had it about 2 years before she totalled it. It was a mess.

have a 2003 liberty, 185k 1 recall for tie rod ends, been a good little unit. gas milage is not so good about 100k per 1/4 tank. has been dependable

I think, like most Chrysler vehicles, they are pretty cheap poorly made trucks. The interior is cheaply made, they have a bunch of problems with their front ends, and stay away from the automatics.

2003 liberty limited: recalls - lower ball joint seperation, brakes, exterior lights
2004: recalls - door latch assembly, BCM software, brakes, exterior lights, lower ball joint
2005: recalls - trany, brakes, exterior lights, lower ball joint
2006: recalls - trany, under hood wireing, door latch, lower ball joint, electrical system
2007: recalls - trany, electrical system, antilock brakes
2008: recalls - windsheild, parking brake

all recalls for the Limited model

the wrangler looks cool and ya could take the doors off.

if she wants it , if my gf bought one id buy the manual to fix it so i could fix it

My dad has a Jeep Liberty. There is a problem with it though. When he shifts from reverse into drive, the gear selector will skip drive and fall into 2nd gear. Then you have to move it up into drive.

I have driven a few Escapes and love them,,personally I would never own another dodge piece of $%#@. They look good but fit and finish suck.
