Jballard81's 1994 super cab 4.0 4x4 Restore

yes, the cable goes into the T case output area.

Figure out the tooth count on your speedo gear or color (they're color coded by tooth count) and order one with one less and you should be closer, they're under $10 each

IDK about the 94 dash, but on mine I can reach the back of the speedometer to unhook the cable without taking anything else apart. I lube mine about twice a year. It reminds me be going absolutely nuts when it gets below freezing outside... (Like bouncing between 10 and 50 at 5 mph)

Good day at the boneyard. They got a really nice looking 92 explorer in this week with a 4.0
Kind of sad to see it in here, it had a gorgeous front end. Interior was passable if they hadn't broken the windows to let it rain inside 😞

Also grabbed the owners manual from it. Those explorer guys got way nicer stuff than us ranger guys. First time finding an emergency plastic key card as well. Really cool.

Grabbed the air box from it along with the MAF and a surprisingly clean IAC. Just to have some backups.

Pulled the floor cupholder and mounting brackets from a 95 b4000. It was sun faded so after cleaning it I gave it a couple coats of the grey I'm going to use on my refurbished dashboard. Will get a picture once it dries.

Also grabbed the owners manual from it.

Keep an eye out for the "Explorer" ink pen that originally came with it.

That was a good day at the boneyard.

From what I've seen this is a pretty rare find in the wild:

OEM chrome grille from a 94! It's in great shape as well. Also grabbed the throttle cable as well as this is the first 94 4.0 I've found in a boneyard.

A good 4.0 intake tube without holes or cracks is getting hard to find these days. If that one's good, and the price is reasonable, it'd be a good idea to grab it for stash/sell/trade.

you're preaching to the choir! the ends were actually pretty good but it had a significant hole rubbed through the bottom by the belt. i almost picked it up just for the end pieces. Still not sure i should have left it...

Didn't know this plastic valance or whatever it is was supposed to be behind the grille:

Here's the grille cleaned up. It's really in great shape.

Kinda hard to tell, but there's like zero dings or rock chips. Must have spent a lot of it's life sitting.

Oh...so you bring it in and clean it up in the kitchen sink...I hate you.

FYI: I nabbed two of the air intakes if you're interested...

Haven't been around many of that generation, but its news to me too. Kind of funny though. Those had it. The 98-00 did not have it. Aparently the 01-03 honeycomb grills had it. I never paid that much attention to my dad's 4x4 to notivce it. I want to facelift mine to that grill, have a fella that offered me one free that's missing the honeycomb insert. Salvaged the insert from a busted junkyard grill along with all of the hardware and filler pieces, and sure enough it had the insert behind it. Don't know if I'm going to use it, but I brought it home anyway.

You mean that the kitchen sink isn't a parts washer? What about the bathtub for the big stuff, is that a no-go too? I wonder what they'd think about using the dining room table as a workbench and soldering station?

Might be some of the reasons I'm still single?

I'm generally relegated to the garage or my office. My ~ 10x10 office has 3 desks in it, 2 of which hold PCs for work, the last desk holds my 3D printers and whatever truck parts I'm working on at the time.

It's where I refurbished my junkyard dashboard as well as where it still sits until I get around to installing it 😂

If I had the room to install a utility sink or parts washer in the garage I definitely would! Maybe when the kids move out (4 years, fingers crossed).

Spent some time reorganizing my garage today. Recently picked up a Yukon tool chest and didn't want to get rid of my tool cart, so I got rid of some other stuff to make it all fit.

Might notice that the tool cart lid is closed, it's currently empty and I need to relocate that cabinet somewhere else in the future
