ok, so for a long time, i've wanted to make an illuminated ford logo to put on my vehicle (mustang was the vehicle i was driving at the time)

it all started from the ford crew, a group of guys i knew, we were kinda like a teenage gang, except we didn't really go around breaking the laws, persay... yeah we broke laws, but that wasn't the purpose of our activity... we were just a group of friends who all drove fords, so we called ourselves the ford crew... ANYWAYS, we discussed this back then, and LED's were around but not common really, and they hadn't made them very small, no flush mounts were on the market...

what i wanted to do was take the ford emblems off of all of our vehicles and make the blue glow blue, and put them back on, i found one company who was going to do it, he MIGHT have been using LED's but i don't know... he wanted about 150+200 each i think, and they were going to be about an inch thick, so it would stick way off the back of the car and look dumb... but now that LED's have gotten so small, and the technology is there for led fabric, i think this might be a much more doable idea... so i'm wondering what product i'm looking for that i can shape or cut, maybe a fabric, maybe just a glowing piece of plastic... i would prefer it not to have individual lights on it that you can see, but just one big glowing surface, i do NOT want it very bright, as distracting or blinding other drivers is not in the game plan... and something that's decently priced... i can't seem to find anything on ebay or google with the searches i've tried... does anyone on here know of a product that would work for what i'm thinking?

i have a feeling it's what i'm thinking of, but i can't see the pics, because i'm not a member, can you post the pics here for me plz?

Let me know if you can see these I saved to my computer then uploaded them to photobucket.

:shok:

why have i not been informed of this technology before, why is it not popular and how the hell do those last 2 questions apply WHEN DODGE PUT THIS SHIT IN 1960'S CARS!?!?!?!?!

um yes, i'm pretty sure this stuff is going to work perfectly, and by the looks of it, i can cut it to what ever size i want without issue...

i'm using this for my dash... screw LED conversion

From raptorforumz.com:

the price is right.. thanks for the idea everyone!

i bought the inverter from the website, and then added the two strips. you can run two from the same inverter.

inverter: http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-23157573...e--el-pan.html

light panel: http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-23157573...conn12125.html

i ordered two light panels and all works fine. set it on my 4th aux switch! finally something hooked up to those lol

also as a note: for outdoor use and for the water, rain etc, i wrapped mine lightly in plastic saran wrap

also i wish i would have done this while ordering but for 1 dollar more u can get fancy features like flashing lights, etc here: http://www.glowhut.com/12v-electrolu...trippan12.html

do you kow much about this stuff? i'm reading up on it, and there's people saying you can cut it, but because of moisture in the air it will kill the panel quickly, and it is very hard to reseal it?

http://www.electronicspoint.com/electroluminescent-sheet-cutting-t25786.html

i'm just thinking ways i can make it work for a dashboard background... cutting a bunch of pieces for the different colors of things, like the mph on mine is red, the km's are green, i would like to keep it that way...

the mph, and the line on empty for the fuel, keep that red, make the rest blue (needles i will use LED

No I saw that thread a while ago and thought it was cool but then forgot about it. Until you mentioned the ford emblem in the other thread. I never read up on it till now.

it seems pretty cool, i just sent an email to glowhut asking them a bunch of stuff about weatherability, and cutting and reusing the other pieces

anyone have any idea what type of a forum i should be looking/asking questions on, to get the best info about these EL sheets and strips?

tell me what you guys think of this idea... i was suggested that EL wire might be cool... i don't think it would look that good, but it might... basically the idea is that i would trace the outline of the thing with wire... what do you guys think about this? or would it look 10x better if the whole background were one solid color?

I was reading this thread and was about to post about electroluminescent panels. I guess you figured it out on your own. :icon_thumby:
