So we have over 1' of snow here now and its still pouring down snow. It will probably snow for the next 2 days and I can't afford to keep missing work :annoyed:

Last night I made it up our extremely steep driveway with my 2wd open diff, the chains were clawing their way into the ice to get a bite into the ground. I just barely made it.

Using wal-mart cheapo chains I was scared they were going to snap going up the hill, but they endured for 2 trips up the driveway. Today the snow is much deeper and I was planning on making another trip down and then back up to keep the tracks fresh, but decided to make sure the chains would hold up in this deep of snow....... well I found out that no, they don't hold up about the time i saw one of the chains being spit out the rear.

I fixed the chain that broke by opening up a link and reattaching then welding it back together, but I decided I would like to get some tougher chains that are easier to install... $90 at Les Schwab :annoyed:

We all know they are like $30 in the summer, but that is to be expected. Other than that there are no heavy duty chains available that I could get same day.

FUUUUN

END.

your walmart sells tire chains?

Yeah, Peerless brand tire chains. They are very light duty chains, when I was repairing them I cut through them light butter with a hack saw.

I bought them 5 years ago when I didn't live on a hill, they were intended for light use on flat ground.

Ours does too. Looks like a lot of fun up there in Oregon right now. I love the snow.

Oh BOO HOO!!!! one foot!!!! HA! we have snowberms taller than your truck here! and have you seen on the news about Cordova, Alaska. The national guard had to come shovel that town out! (houses colapsed from 5-8 FEET of snow).

Looks like you go heavy wet snow. Get a metal shovel and have at it. That's the best weather to learn how to drift in!! HAVE FUN!!! HAHAHA... wimp. lol jk

Send some of that my way. We've had a total of 5 or 6 inches in Salt Lake all season. Not good!

Yea i feel ya. We had over 24 feet in 24 days, This pic was 5 major storms ago plus the stuff in the middle of them.

I saw that very same picture last year! Sure looks like cars are driving on the wrong side of the road to me.

Yeah, Lima, that's been all over facebook (that's in Japan.) BUT the road to Valdez HAS looked like that before. In fact they have these long pole things (standing vertical) along the sides of the highway so when we have that much snow, people can tell where the edge of the road. lol

:dunno:ADN had it on there news site. Look for some from cordova and on the way to valdez in a min then.

NW arkansas can use some snow, it was 70+ degrees yesterday... only snowed like 4 inches all winter... last year was full of snow...

awww man. I haven't seen a good snow in years. I'm so very jealous of you! I would assume I'd be singing a different tune if I was a foot of snow, it was still snowing, and I had to get to work, but charlotte got maybe 2" last year and it was mostly ice (people in the "big city" can NOT drive in ice, watched 6 wrecks happen in 3 miles...) I miss my mountains and actual snow, not up north snow but snow none the less:(
