just looking for more votes on this topic, air box on you get fresh air, or air box off for more airflow but sucks warmer engine air.

Use the airbox. It's there for a reason.

What makes you think that having the air box on is causing a restriction? If you're really that worried about it, tie a vacuum gauge into the pre-filter area of the box and see what you're getting.

The airbox & filter on your 2.3L 4 cylinder is the same size as used on the 3.0L and 4.0L V-6's. It's designed to flow way more air than a 4.0L will pull, and way over designed for a 2.3L 4 cylinder! So, stay with the OEM airbox and filter, you WILL NOT get any more airflow without it!

I have to agree with the group saying keep the stock air box. While the K&N is nice, you'll be sucking warmer air from the engine compartment, as opposed to cooler air from outside.

The throttle plate is the biggest restriction in the intake. If you need more airflow, step on the gas pedal some more. The throttle plate will open, allowing more air in. There is NO reason to complain about not enough air flow if you're not already at WOT.

Well the score is 5 nothing to air box asembly on, so I'll go with that, unfortunetly I threw it out so I guess I'll be visiting the junkyards. If I ever get a chance I would like to do to a mpg test with and without the air box, I honestly don't think though it will make much difference, If an open K&N filter was worse though I dont think they would be in business

There are many aftermarket products that don't work at all...Tornadoes, Splitfire spark plugs, just to name a few!

Another way to look at it, with the CAFE standards today, do you really think auto manufacturers would design intake systems that are restrictive to cut down on MPG? Absolutely NOT! With the large holes in the K&N filter's media,
they will flow more air than the OEM paper filters, but since the OEM paper filter isn't the limiting factor for the amount of air flow an engine is pulling, you
won't get any more air flow with the K&N, or no filter at all! You will just get more dirt and oil with the K&N!

hey bluebombersfan what motor do you have in your truck i may have a replacement stock CAI for you if you live in manitoba im going to be putting on my CAI from my old 99 i can give you the one from my current truck if you want its a 3.0 04 it should work if you have the 2 piece intake system.

I put a k&n air filter on my truck and ill never go back to the air box. i got HUGE performance gains off the k&n. i also got huge performance gains when i put a k&n on my brothers 2004 2.4l hyundai santa Fe , My fathers 2005 3.0l Mitsubishi eclipse, and my friends 1999 Pontiac sunfire. I love k&n and i think (and have proven pretty thoroughly) that adding a k&n will add performance gains.

What was it that PT Barnum said about people like you?

bluebomber it is really up to you if i were you i would try both and see if you notice any difference if so stick with the K&N cai if not then go back to stock. there are always gonna be people that say it does nothing and people that say it made a difference.

I'm not removing the K&N

There's a little confusion,
I was only talking about putting the airbox assembly back on, (The housing that fits overtop the filter wich may allow it to draw perhaps fresher air from down low) I would never trade my K&N for a paper filter, its less maintenance and reusable for life.
I think the K&N that I have was the same size as the paper filter so the air box/assembly I'm hoping will fit perfect overtop, I wont be able to see it anymore as it will be covered but it will still be there inside doing it's job

If you don't mind getting your MAF sensor contaminated, and your IAC valve & throttle body gummed up from the dirt and oil they pass......

If that were the case I would think car company's would just void there warranty for anyone who installed one into there vehicle.
