what does everyone think? good buy?

is there a difference between a 2wd and 4wd inner tie rod or are they the same? thanks.

I've got over 150,000 miles on my 2000 2wd inner tie-rods and they are still going strong. I would say these ford parts are good and I'd spend the $38 for real Motorcraft inner tie-rods...

As long as they don't say valuecraft as the brand they are fine. 15 bucks is typical.

38 however is highway robbery and i'd never pay that for a damn TRE. Unless perhaps it was for a 1 ton truck. but definitely not for a RBV.

38 bucks is expensive for a tie rod end? really? wow.

Yeah, my neighbour just paid $86 a piece, at cost for 1 ton TRE's. it was something like $160 a piece retail.

I'm a cheap ass...? Money is tight what can I say.

I've never paid more than $25 for a TRE for any of the cars I've had to fix around my house (I'm the parts boy). That includes an Ford Explorer, my truck, a CJ-5 and long time ago an 80's model 4x4 F150.

For $40 plus tax I can get the whole stinkin drag link, an for $100 I can replace everything TRE to TRE on my B-series.

I ended up going to my local NAPA $25 each. I had my truck up on the lift the other day to change my oil and i looked at the front end and it seems like quite a job to replace the inners. anyone have any tips tricks or info? thanks.

I realize I'm like 2 weeks late, but maybe I can still help... Inner tie rods are not as scary as they look to replace. Just remove your outer rod end and jam nut (count the number of turns it takes to get it off), cut the boot clamps and slip the boot off. At this point you will need a inner tie rod tool, which is available as a loan a tool from Autozone, O'Rielly and the like, get that tool on there and it just unthreads. That easy... now use some medium loctite and thread on your new rod, replace the boot being sure you attach the little breather pipe and zip tie it back in place. Thread on the outer the same number of turns as when you took it off, tighten everything up get and alignment, pat yourself on the back and grab a cold one.
