How important is a lift for mudding? I have a 3.0 Ranger Edge and was thinking of just putting on some 30" Superswampers. Would this setup do well for mudding or should I throw on a 3" BL and some 32's? Or a spindle setup?

Just looking for some experienced input.

Well......

ground clearence. Lift the truck up higher to allow bigger tires gains you ground clearence for both your front crossmember and axles, as well as your body. That's the importance of a lift...

Mudding in a 2wd...ok....you mean splashing in puddles?

For a 2wd a-arm truck, i'd spindle lift it. GOBS of clearence under that front crossmember.

Depends on how deep the mud is. I could easily see a ranger mudding on 30" tires getting stuck by the frame. Yet again your 2WD so I doubt you will be (moving) in deep mud anyways...

I don't like mud. But #1 is tires. My B2 has a 3" (probably 2.5") lift and the fenders are massively chopped, and both axles are locked. With 35" Ground Hawgs I could not get it stuck-and I was driving around the line of trucks through stuff...I shiver to think of it. This was during the 2006 Snowball at Wellsville.

a good rule of thumb would be to lock and armor and go for tires then lift. yota guys live by that even if you just had like a powertrax locker or a "lunchbox locker" with some armor you could go far with a good set of mud tires and "some" lift you could go WAY further. what you want to remeber about a locker is if you live where you get alot fo snow and ice then a limited slip would be better for you but if not and you live like where i do then go ahead and get a lunchbox locker. Now for tires if you go through a lot of thick sticky mud get MUD tires if it is soupy stuff a good set of ATs will get you pretty far. and one more thing you MUST need to remeber when you start throwin on bigger tires you will need to upgrade your gears or you will have a slow and under powered truck and gasmileage well it wont be your friend.

and one more really important thing with a stock height truck BEWARE THE GROOVE!!!! it will take you out just as fast as you hit it

All ATs suck for anything. They pack up too easily and don't clean out.

I wouldn't bother with a limited slip for anything either. A locker is fine in the snow on the rear.
