On the roof. I am shocked no one else pulled you for it. I got pulled for that in NY, PA, OH and MA.
Worse gas mileage plus costs us money to buy the top rack plus harder to get bikes on-off, etc. And no one cares down here so it's not worth it.
That's why they made it illegal.
Hey, I don't care either but you asked where they expect you to put them.
Had one pull my cousin over because there was snow blocking his plate on his truck. Cop said something like this "I should write you a citation for that, but I'll let it go this time. Have a nice day."
In illinois you can't have a hitch with a reciever on it "when not in use"
Actually, I wish people around here would get tickets for snow covered plates. It pisses me off that people can't take 2 seconds to wipe the damn thing off.
You got these jerks in 4x4's driving like maniacs in a foot of snow. What if they hit a car or run one off the road? The driver of the car is the one who's screwed because they have nothing more than a description of the truck, at best. This past winter here was the worst in many years, and I can't count how many close calls I saw. And almost nobody in a pickup wiped the snow off their plate.
If you have a 4x4 in a foot of snow with essentially no license plate - you can literally get away with murder. Who's going to catch up to you?
Keeping the plate unobstructed is no joke.
