i believe here in washington state that they dont care if the tailgate is down, i see people drive with them down all the time. The only law i can think of is that you can do anything you want to your vehicle but your not aloud to block the license plate.

It's just an excuse to pull you over and check you out, that's it and that's all. I've never been bothered for no front licence plate until memorial day weekend when there's a ton of cops out looking for drunks, so they saw an opportunity with my truck to check me out. Same thing goes for licence plate lights, it's just an excuse to pull you over.

Worse gas mileage plus costs us money to buy the top rack plus harder to get bikes on-off, etc. And no one cares down here so it's not worth it.

You're right. I just don't like the fact that you can get in trouble for blocking your plate since it's way too easy to do.

thats just being an asshole. i hate cops like that.

my mom got pulled over for 35 in a 25. the cop looked like he hadnt shaved at all in a few days and was just a complete prick about it.

my first "speeding" ticket was just for a blocked plate. i was goin 65 in a 50 or 55. cop was nice and let me go with the lisence plate ticket

I drive with mine down all the time here, and keep a reciever on my hitch, and even got a tinted plate cover. Never been pulled. Guess they really don't care down here

You got these jerks in 4x4's driving like maniacs in a foot of snow. What if they hit a car or run one off the road? The driver of the car is the one who's screwed because they have nothing more than a description of the truck, at best. This past winter here was the worst in many years, and I can't count how many close calls I saw. And almost nobody in a pickup wiped the snow off their plate.
If you have a 4x4 in a foot of snow with essentially no license plate - you can literally get away with murder. Who's going to catch up to you?

Keeping the plate unobstructed is no joke.

Same in PA. New law as of last year. At least you just got a warning.

Couple weeks ago I went to the recycling center during normal hours but it was closed due to an event at the park. Dude who works there (yeah I know, it's "closed" but someone was working there...eh, government) says if I'm careful to go ahead and leave my stuff but if I drop anything they have cameras (I knew this) and will send me a $350 fine for littering. Hey guys, way to promote recycling. I'm not hauling a truckload of cardboard back to my church. Put it in the dumpsters and drive away with my tailgate down so the cameras don't pick up my plate.

My buddy got pulled over for this last year in his blazer.... ive had my playe snow over, driving my truck in the snow at 60 in a 100( KM HERE) in about 10 minutes in a snow storm,


if you think im gonna stop every ten minutes to clean a plate in the storm..... i doubt it.... i know some ppl drive like retard cuz they have 4x4 but the plate deal can happen to any one.

I got pulled over for having a snow build up on my trunk and back window of my altima....The cop sounded really compassionate about it. He kept saying I could have killed someone if it fell off....I was just thinking to myself, the road is covered in ice, if the snow comes off the back of my car, its just going to fall onto ice....But he let me go after making me wipe it off.
