I have an 85 ford ranger 2.8. I removed the engine harness to make a lot of wiring repairs. I have connector that I cannot find where it goes. I took a lot of pictures before I removed harness but I can’t find this particular one anywhere.

That looks like the connector for the duraspark ignition box, which if your truck is original, it doesn't have. They used the same harness for the 4 cylinders that year, and they used the duraspark system. Your truck uses a computer with the TFI module mounted on the distributor itself.

See how green and dirty it is? It's been laying around not connected since the truck was built.

Thank you! I’ve been racking my brain about this one. I did notice the discoloration like it wasn’t plugged in but according to the wiring diagram the blue and red wire was ignition so I figured I was just missing something. Thanks for the help!

Do you know what this would be?

That looks like an old voltage regulator.

That is the voltage regulator. I have a 1984 and it's in the same spot. There is so much computer and enissions junk on the pass side inner fender, I guess that is the only place they could put it.

Now I have gotten rid of all that junk, I have room to move the regulator over to the pass side. That will eliminate a bunch of wires going across the top of the engine. And also get the charge wire closer to the battery.
