If there were no more Rangers -----?

I H scout for me too, wouldnt mind scout II I should look for one anyways:icon_idea: Iused to ride in my dads, still remember the tock tock of the windshield wipers (vacum operated I think). I think it had a 4 banger. Ill take a v-8 conversion too yeah baby!!! didnt top come off too?:yahoo:

the scout II i got from my uncle , that i am doing a s**t ton of body work on , has an AMC 258 Straight - 6 , 4 speed manual , and manual steering , yea , imagine tring to fit that in a spot in a pole barn between the wall and a jacked up 75 Scout II rollin on 38's powered by a 345 V-8 , it is not easy to steer at .5 mph

who makes the 345? can you get high performance parts for that thing? headers, lockers? what about supension lift homemade?

the 345 was an AMC engine , all scouts are powered by AMC engines , except for the 79-80 Scout II diesels , which had a Nissan Straight 6 Diesel , and i believe you can get performance parts for them , and lifts are a mainstream thing for them

plus , later 4WD Scout II's came stock with dana 60's

and all international products from like 57 - on were powered by AMC Engines , same as any jeep , the favorite swap is to find a 3/4 or 1 ton international pickup and swap the Dana 70's and 392 V-8 into the scout

Drive faster---->better steering? It is afterall just a pole barn.

well i was in the pole bar and trying to squeeze it in , does not help it has custom bumpers that exted 3 or 4 inches out past the fenfers on each side , front and rear

I would drive an Extended cab long bed 90's Powerstroke Diesel w/ a 5 speed manual. ( We have a sweet looking 92 or 93 but an auto with the Navistar International 7.3L) I'd jack it up a good 4 - 6 inches and slap on some 35's, onboard air, winches, recovery stuff, and a Bar-b in the back of offroad Grillin!

or a Subi Baja and slap in a beefed up STi engine and jack it up for I'd say some 31's. It would look awsome.

73-87 3/4 or 1-ton Chevy truck with Fiberglass fenders, no lift, 35s and detroits front and rear. For my daily I would go with an early to mid 80's 2wd yota hilux. I used to have an 86' and it was one hell of a truck, tough as nails.

Got a '77 Scout that I would love to put a Ranger body on.

Still Ill stick to my Big Burly J-4000. Ill never forget the day the brakes failed and I crashed into the workbench in the back of the shop.

A mid 70's dodge Powa Wagon, or a scout would be nice. But a real 40's vintage Powa Wagon is almost out of reach.

The 304, 345 and 392 are all IH and different from anything similar in displacement that AMC offered. IH used the same engines in their smaller truck line. The 392 was never put in Scouts but like you said is often sourced from larger vehicles.

They did use the AMC 232 and and AMC 258 six cylinder engines in addition to the Nissan diesels, but that was it. If it wasn't a six cylinder, it was a IH engine.

They make some hop up parts for the IH V-8's, but not a whole lot. They have a lot of stroke and are way overbuilt for more diesel like low end torque and durablity than racing. A four barrel intake, a cam or two and maybe headers would be about it, they by no means have a SBC following.

Later Scouts had D44's on both ends, as opposed to D27/D30/D44 mixes prior to 1974. D60's were never an option.

My dad has a 1967 1100 pickup with a 304 that my great grandfather bought new, they made good scary simple trucks back then. Ours still has a glass sediment bowl fuel filter, a throwback the company's tractor line no doubt; as is the inner door handle, unavailable from anywhere unless you ask for a 1066 tractor cab handle... which is identical.

I'd cut the hatch off of my wife's Escape and add a basket to the receiver and keep on truckin'.

I don't get it....if the Ranger totally dies out and parts for it are totally gone, then I'm sure older vehicles would have become toatlly obsolete and have died out too. So why build an older vehicle?

I'd still stick with the Ranger. IF engine support goes, I'll swap a newer, well supported engine in. I could probably get by with buying parts Rangers for a while, and can fab just about anything else.

IDK though, there seems to be a pretty good fan base right here on TRS. I'm sure someone would be CRAZY enough to start offering a custom fab/resto shop/site to swap in newer engines, and fab parts......that's my .02, let the wheels start spinning.:icon_thumby:

I would drive my rangers till they dont drive anymore....then, for a mud truck, i would build up my dads 71 ford f100 (beastly truck) and for a DD I would finally get to work building mine (yes mine) 56 ford f100
