How did ford come up with the exterior color Silver Frost Metallic ?

What other colors for the 02 and 03 ranger have the glitters in the paint

Until recently, ( 5 years or so ) Almost all automotive paint had "glitter". It was a way to add flare to a color. It seems the trend is leaning away from metalic paints and into the "drab" colors of grey. Like Fords Cactus grey, or Battle ship Gray on the Dodge side. Even Nissan and Toyota offer a few tans and greens without the sparkle.

What does add flare to a color mean ? Which ranger metalic colors had glitter ?

There is Blue, then there's Metallic Blue. Adding glitter to paint gives it a little more to look at. Blue paint is standard, but you would pay extra for the Metalic Blue.
Which ranger metalic colors had glitter ?
Almost ALL of them except White.

What year did ford first add the glitter metalic paint color. How much extra would you pay for metalic ? What does metalic do to a paint color ?

How does metallic paint look?

If you can see sparkling in the paint, it is a metallic paint.

Now you can find out when Ford first used metalic paint.

My 93 f-150s exterior paint is K3 Bimini Blue Clearcoat Metallic Paint, Ford #M6441 but there is no glitter in my exterior paint color even though it says metallic paint ??

I was wondering if you knew when ford first used metallic paint on the rangers

I am NO expert on Ford paints by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm sure this info can be found with Google

Flare... well that just human nature for our eyes to be drawn to something sparkly/shiny/shimmery. Squirrel!

You don’t always see the metallic particles. Sometimes they are big, visible flakes and sometimes they are really tiny and instead of seeing the flakes you just see the effect of having them in there. Automotive paint colors are a complicated science. Sometimes there are metallic flakes in the color coat. Sometimes there are reflective elements added to the clear coat. Different colors will look different based on the primer coat applied underneath. To really learn it, you would need to talk to the manufacturers or maybe some really experienced and trained automotive paint experts.

I work in the paint shop in a BMW manufacturing plant. Some of the colors we paint are really cool. At one time, we had 5 or 6 different metallic black colors. They would just look a beautiful shiny black until the angle of the light changes. Then you would see a red or gold or deep blue start to show up. Carbon black is the blue one and it’s absolutely beautiful. Our mineral white is a plain white color coat with mica flakes in a top coat. It looks like you can reach into the depth of the paint.

My 2003 is black. There's no metallic in it at all. That's why I like it. It's easy to touch up and maintain. My friend has a 2002 black. It is also non metallic. We retouched his paint job with Rustoleum black. It worked like a champ. I don'r recommend you do this. Rustoleum, even with a clear coat, will not hold up as well as 2K paints.

I had a 2016 X4 that was the Blue-Black. I didn't think it was called Carbon Black though. Seems like it was something else.

I had an 1986 grey ranger. It was a very nice metallic grey with flakes I believe. Since then I've purposely picked flat white because I feel like it holds up better, shows road grime less and is easier on the eyes.
