you would need a major regearing and if your clutch is weak, the tires will point that out for you thats for sure. but lower gears would be a must or you wont be moving very fast at all

I'd trade the 40" tires for MAX 33". It all depends on your gearing, Are you running stock gears? In my b-2 I run 3.73 = 31" tires and the tires are still a little too big. Bigger tires = more inertia, which means your gas mileage will go down, it takes longer to get up to speed, it takes longer to stop, they are harder on just about every thing; ball-joints, tie-rods, springs, shocks, etc.
If you want to run those I think you would have to change the front and rear axles, unless you are going to be a mall crawler...
Good luck,

Richard

have you ever driven anything with 39 or bigger bias ply tires?

i would need more data....as in the actual powertrain. is it the stock axles or does it have swapped in axles?

the 3.0 and 5 speed in low range would move around fine as long as your just mall crawlin and never need to go over 55 mph with 410 or taller gears...likely 350 with swapped axles.

if you have oem axles...your in a bit of a bind, the front end wont be long lived. 513 gears are the minimum needed

rickybobby is a good name for you....welcome to ranger mod hell....

FOr 40 inch tires, I would def just trade them for a maximum 33's like said above, then consider a regear to 4.10's or better. You will def have to finish the lift. Its alot more work than I think your prepared to invest to roll those 40's
