I don't get why such a high performance vehicle would have an automatic transmission

Well, jeez man. If I could afford that, I could retire early. I would still go to work and do my job, but at least I can relax about affording the bills.

Because an automatic can shift faster than anybody can on a stick. The transmission is most likely a triptronic double clutch. One set of clutch for the odd number gears, the other for even gears. It just alternates between clutches for the shift, which can happen in the time you blink your eyes.

You can call me old fashion, I still would prefer a stick on the floor and a good old engine under the hood.

This.

I knew it was faster but it doesn't seem as reliable. I'd rather have a stick too. Why don't they put automatics in sports cars like Shelby's and Camaro's?

Good old America muscle car, thats why. Just like how the old 60's 70's classics may have a 3 or 4-speed manual and raw V-8 power under the hood. That tradition conitunes in today's market, except now with refined V-8's and 6-speed manuals.

Each region of the world has their own refined taste of sports car. We have American muscle, Asia has compact tuners, and Europe has a mix of sleek line cars.

A guy in my car club just got his wife a fairly new automatic Saleen... supposed to be pretty rare though.

Most of the people that get Shelby's and Camaro's probably want a manual... so that is what they get.

They are funner to drive when you want to drive them as they were meant to, but push come to shove a properly built automatic will beat the tar out of them.

With this kind of a car it is like wishing the F-22 had a propeller... completly different class of vehicle.

Makes sense.

I would never put a Shelby in the same category as a Camaro.

I wouldn't either. I just said that as an example.

Ya I get what your saying. Automatics are faster but sticks are cooler :icon_thumby:
