Just Wondering If it would be possible to put in a Moser engineering rear end into a v8 Ranger?

I believe when GM guys talk about 10 bolt or 12 bolt, they're talking about the number of ring gear bolts, not cover bolts.
You sure? I always thought it was cover bolts

Here are a couple of photos of the 8.8 in SlugStangs Ranger, when I welded on the HD shock mounts and wide perches.View attachment 116849View attachment 116850

Looks good to me. I don't think anyone was questioning his axle or your install of it. Pretty sure that we're all trying to convince him that a further axle "upgrade" is unneeded and unnecessary.

Almost sure. One of my former techs had a GM background so he usually had a Chevy or Pontiac project car. I saw him working on a rear end during lunch break and asked him what the spindly rear end came out of. He told me it was a 12 bolt and seemed offended that I thought it looked spindly. An 8.8 would have been an upgrade.

Im not real familar with GM stuff like that so i could be wrong.

But i do know ive always heard the 14bolt was the only one really worth a shit. Not sure how it compares to a D60/70 or a 10.25 sterling though

The best- and most common- fix for a broken GM rear end is a 9 ich Ford swap.

Being somewhat of a gm guy.. it's the count of the cover bolts... for the most part.

There are 2 different 10 bolts..one with a 7.5" ring gear and one with an 8.5"

The 12 bolt has a 8- 7/8" ring gear

Semi float 14 bolt is has a 9.5" gear and the full floater is 10.5".. newer dmax 14's have an 11.5" ring.. attached to the carrier by 12 bolts.

A ff 14 bolt is stronger than a ford 9".. but its huge.. and heavy.. and saps more power.. thus the compromise for the ford axle.

I am not upgrading my axle
But I was just wondering about Moser axles.
If i call Moser what questions should i ask them?
I was going to ask about the M88 8.8 axle. I was going to say that i would need it configured for a Mercury Mountaineer with a v8. But what specifics should i ask? I just want to know if the axle is equal to the axle that i have in strength. Also got to ask about the abs module that my truck has. But that is all i got... I am not buying it though i was just going to get some information.

Diff cover bolts is what they're referring to.

It would have been better if they had referred to ring gear size like we do, as Blmpkn said there are several variants out there. I always thought the truck 10 bolt was pretty pathetic in that application - I kinda feel the same way about the full size truck 8.8 though. That seems to be the case for a lot of stuff made after the early 80's - bean counters took over.

GM 14 bolt full floaters are awesome in any case, those use to be the go-to axle in the rock crawling world. Shave the bottom, truss the top and that takes care of the ground clearance somewhat.

well then WTH is a four Bolt main ?
When I was a kid, my friends dad put a "350 4 bolt main" in a S-15. All I remeber him saying is "4 bolt main" over and over again.

That’s talking about the engine. The bearing caps holding the crank shaft and bearings in place on the bottom of the block have 4 bolts each instead of 2. Stronger caps, more bolts = stronger assembly that can handle more power from big pistons and long stroke.

Absolutely not an axle term.

I would hope a 1 ton axle is stronger then a 9inch...

Hows it stack up to a Dana70? Lol

Once you sell the corolla and daily drive some nice 'merican iron it'll start to make sense 😋
Sell the Corolla? what language is THAT?
Breaking News ::::: daughter now drives the "Rolla. I daily my '87 Nissan D21 (Hardbody) now.
EDIT: That Corolla has NEVER spent the night at a shop. NOT a single mechanical issue since we bought it off the lot back in '07.
Would do again

Toyota Corollas are good cars in my opinion
I emailed Moser engineering and tried to ask some questions but they are closed for the day
