Just Wondering If it would be possible to put in a Moser engineering rear end into a v8 Ranger?

That’s talking about the engine. The bearing caps holding the crank shaft and bearings in place on the bottom of the block have 4 bolts each instead of 2. Stronger caps, more bolts = stronger assembly that can handle more power from big pistons and long stroke.

Absolutely not an axle term.
Chevy Talk is weird
We talk about 2 bolt, 4 bolt and cross bolted Ford engines too

Well Moser Engineering emailed me back and sent me an order form. They wanted me to call them to talk to them about the axle but i don't think i have enough knowledge about axles to tell them what i need and get a price. I may give it a try anyway Here is there order form. It asked for the dimensions of the axle. I don't know the dimension of my axle to fill it out. Plus im not buying an axle i was just inquiring about it.

I called them and talk to them and basically told them what i needed and they said they can definitely make an explorer axle. And it would be 30% stronger than the original axle. So i guess you would need to weld the brackets on like you would to install the explorer axle into a ranger. I didn't get a price though. Im sure it would be expensive but it can be done for sure...So if anyone was wondering about Moser Axles as an option well they are an option for a rear axle.

You could go to Moser, Strange, Curry, or any of the custom axle builders out there. Any one of them can build an “Explorer” axle for your Ranger.
But you don’t need it. I’ve built close to 100 custom width axles in the time I worked in my buddy’s chassis shop. Pretty much everything got 9” style axle retainers or full floating D60 ends.
Stock vs stock a 31 spline Explorer 8.8 is stronger than your common run of the mill 9”. The 9” shines when it comes to aftermarket support. You can build an insanely strong custom housing 9” from a catalog…. But you don’t need it.
A 5.0 swap Ranger on anything 35s or smaller only needs an Explorer axle. Even if I was snapping axle flanges off wheeling the piss out of the truck, I’d just weld D60 full floaters on the ends and throw some custom shafts in it.

Thanks for your reply
Im not having any problems with my rear end
And i know i wouldn't need it but i just think its really cool that you can get a custom rear end made. I didn't know that was common knowledge so im sorry for posting about it. And i would consider a 9" if was going custom i guess. Anyway that was my experience with Moser they seem to have good customer service...And my dream build truck would have one of those Moser rear ends LOL

well then WTH is a four Bolt main ?
When I was a kid, my friends dad put a "350 4 bolt main" in a S-15. All I remeber him saying is "4 bolt main" over and over again.
nothing new about 4 bolt mains. I have a '69/'70 460 block that has 4 bolts on #2,3,4. the front & rear are just 2 bolts.

That sounds like a 429 CJ/SCJ block, I've never seen a 460 with 4 bolts. Check your casting numbers, you may be able to sell it for big bucks.

@19Walt93 the engine was indeed a 429 SCJ, even though the block is marked 460. it's a DOVE-A block.
it was rebuilt with a 460 crank about 35-40 years ago.

the 460 is cast into the bell housing surface behind #4 I have no idea what the 01 is.

and now we return to our axle discussions.

Someone restoring a 429 SCJ Mustang or Torino might pay top dollar for that block. Who knows why they cast 460 into it, every 428 CJ/SCJ block has 352 cast into it, too.
