I Cloned The Forum !!!!

For those who have been around for a while................

When we moved servers last August we lost the forums because I didn't own the forum software.

When we moved, I bought vBulletin.

I didn't ever want to lose the forums again and wanted to be able to restore them from a back-up.

I taught myself to use SSH commands and last night successfully backed up the forum and recreated it on a completely different server.

I'm psyched!

It's great knowing that the info posted here will never be permanently lost again!

No, but when you have to change software a backup of someone elses software won't load onto a different companies.

I ran into that with phpBB

There are backups on the server and I always have back-ups of the html and php files, but never had a backup of the database off the server on my own computer. The backup I created last night is 102043759 bytes (99,653 KB). The backup of all the html/php pages on my computer (not including the database) is 695 MB.

I had about 3,000 posts and there was a lot of valuable information (vintage...hahaha) on the old site. Smart!
