I have an FM145 in my 87. It doesn't have the quick disconnect fluid line. Can I use one of the newer style clutches with the quick disconnect? I'm willing to get the whole setup, master and hyd clutch if this will work with my FM145. It looks like I would have to enlarge the connection and bleeder valve hole on the transmission a little. Has anyone ever done this before?

I can't get any pedal so I'm replacing the master. If that doesn't fix the problem, I'm going to drop the tranny AGAIN, and replace the hydraulic clutch. If the newer clutch wil work with the FM145 I'd like replace everything instead of buying 2 different master cylinders.

It has a cotter pin that holds the line in place on the slave cylinder housing. It's hard to see but you yank that out (pull towards the rear of the truck) and give the line a tug and it pops right out. Remove the line until the fluid starts to drip then reattach it. Fill the reservoir first so you don't run out of fluid.

allow me to clarify it is not a "cotter" pin (proper spelling is kotter) the pin that holds in the clutch line is called a roll-pin.......i know, i know not helping much but i had to clarify

But will one of the newer slave cylinders with the quick disconnect fit in my FM146 trans? Seems like a better way to go if I can make it work. I'm going to replace the master anyway, if I can swap to a quick disconnct version that would save me buying another master cylinder.

from what i understand as long as both ends utilize the push-in, held in place via roll pin style they can be interchanged. the rubber hose that pushes over the fitting can be removed and a new hose (matching the new trans/slave) can easily be pushed on with use of heat. its not that big of deal i am using a 1988 master (with the quick disconnect fitting) with a chevy transmission/slave. and it works fine.
