How to adjudt parking brake

Need help adjustment parking brake. The pedal goes to the floor and will barely hold it. If it’s on a hill it will not hold. 2003 ford ranger 2.3

In fact... you should pull the drums and give the brakes a good inspection. The park brake parts might not even be in there.

Yeah I bought the truck a month ago now I’m having all kinds of issues. But the parking brake issue is on another 2003 I have. I need to fix it so I can use the boat to put a boat in the water. I’m using this weekend to try to get everything fixed. Not going to well

So there are in fact 2 different trucks in play here? You have both 2.3 and a 3.0 with brake problems? I'm getting confused.

lol. Yes the 2003 3.0 has the abs light on and little peddle. The 2003 2.3 has no parking brake. I figured maybe I can get one of them fixed today. Sorry for the confusion and thank you

So, for the parking brake issue...

1. Have you inspected the brakes? If not, do that first to check condition of hardware, shoes and ensure no leaky cylinders.

2. Then, use the star wheel to adjust tje shoes so they just barely rub on the drums when you turn them by hand. It's pretty easy to do this with the rear wheels removed.

3. Personally, when I get that far, I consider it good enough. Put the wheels on. Go to an empty parking lot somewhere. Back up and apply the brakes. Do this several times to let the adjusters finish the job automatically.

I'm lazy and always forget which way to turn the star wheels after I put the wheels on and drop the truck to the ground.

I never remember... Flip it one way and if that makes it looser, go back the other way

I think on those its possible to install the adjuster upside down anyway, so it might be either.

If it's not obvious, just pull the drum and investigate.

Afaik, if the adjuster is installed backwards, then the automatic system will not work. Nothing will contact the star wheel...

Work on one side at a time. You don't want the star wheel going on the wrong side. It's ok to have the drum off so you can compare sides.

I'd say time for the rear disk brake conversion for the 2003 Ranger.
