How much pressure can Ford steering box take?

Looking into my hydro assist, and I was thinking about taking out a shim on my pump relief to bump up the pressure to around 1250-1300 psi. To take full advantage of the cylinder. But I don't want to bother if its going to blow my box seals apart down the road.

I looked them up, it looks like they just rebuild your box and tap it for the cylinder.

I am already planning on tapping or for my cylinder, but i want to bump up the system pressure all together.

They also open up the internal passages. I may be ass-uming that it would be able to handle more pressure.

That's what I did for my saginaw-ish conversion and it works great.

Opening up passages would allow for higher flow, but it would be making the walls thinner thus reducing pressure capabilities, but I am not worried about the strength of the casting, the seals would be my concern.

I work in hydraulic research and development for a living. I have seen very few castings fail prior to a seal blowing out.

I am going to check the relief setting tonight, if it is less than 1k I'll bump it up a hair and call it good at 1100. I think stock is 950 to 1050.

I also feeding my hydroboost for the brakes too, and its rated for a max of 1300.

Thats an exact number.

I'm a shop foreman at a forklift repair shop... hydraulics are (unfortunately) my life.

Thank you sir. I believe I will try a 1.5" bore cylinder at my 1100psi first. If I need more I look into popping out a .010" shim.
