How much pressure can Ford steering box take?

Thank you sir. I believe I will try a 1.5" bore cylinder at my 1100psi first. If I need more I look into popping out a .010" shim.

Thats the best way to do it. Start low and work your way up.


Like I said, I know it will hold up to 1300 PSI. My buddy has been running that in his f150 for over a year. The box held up to 1425 on one of the pressure tests, but I dont know about long term.

Its drivable, but after a whole day in 4x4 with a mini spool up front it gets old making 30 point turns because I cant get it to turn.lol

What pump are you planning on running? Don’t plan on the stock Ford pump being up to the task flow rate wise.

I tried the stock Ford pump with a 1.5” bore 8” stroke PSC ram and steering response was to slow. Went to a Saginaw P pump and it made a night and day difference.

I have a Saginaw pump, 1.5" bore cylinder, and hydroboost. My concern now is that I will need to have my hydroboost ported for higher flow capabilities. I have heard mixed reviews on whether or not porting will be required. I am going to see how every thing acts with my current setup and work from there.

I made up my cylinder mounts the other day, I just need to pull the box and tap it.

Keep in mind I am setting this cylinder up with pins and hydraulic disconnects so I can remove it for street use. I dont mind slower steering on the trail, but I want my quick response on the road.
